Welcome back to ‘My Week in Younique’ where there is much to update you on. March has truly kicked off with a bang! It’s been a time of personal achievements, new products, deliveries, team mates, record breaks and territory too.
$XX,XOX PRS – YES!
This weekend, I managed to earn a very special PRS charm – EDITED: I am not allowed to say how much I sold.
It took me over one year and four months (and ten days, but who’s counting?) Sure there will be many who do that monthly, or who did it much faster, but there are also a lot who haven’t yet and even some who will never achieve it at all.
So this month, somewhat unusually, sales came from people I know. Often they come from strangers. This month the two big spenders who helped me reach my target were actually my big sister Wendy, and best bud Brian. Some of our products are suitable for men too.
I just want to say a heart felt “thank you” to all of you who purchased anything from me.
TWO NEW TEAMIES
This week I welcomed two new lovelies to my team. One from the isle of Islay and the other is from England. I often get asked for tips for recruiting but I honestly I can’t say I have ever really tried.
With Younique, as with most Direct Sales companies, there is this whole “Make a list of X amount of people you know…” To “share the opportunity” with…and I have no doubt that will work for some people. But honestly? It makes my skin crawl. It’s just now how I am wired.
Will blog more about that later, but my personal tips for getting recruits would simply be – be positive, consistent and share the love of the business, the products and the benefits. And not is some scripted sort of way. (Scripts also make my skin crawl). But that’s just my opinion. You can recruit whatever way you want. I prefer strangers coming to me rather than sharing the opportunity with anyone.
Friday I am pleased to say my new Younique collection – Trendsetter arrived. Like 80,00 other people in the first two days of March, I rather excitedly shopped for our new products that were launched. It was a hassle because the site was chewing up so much bandwidth with all of us clamouring to get our makeup, it kept falling over. Well eventually the order went in and just over a week later, my new products arrived.
Here’s an unboxing video I made, using my phone, in the middle of a networking event. It’s only 90 seconds and will show some of the new products (but I did miss out the new liquid eye liner I got, oops!)…Are you a Trendsetter?
We have a handful of products that immediately sold out (again). Yes, I know it’s frustrating that so many of our top product’s are not in stock. We are in fact victims of our own success. The foundation the puffer brush, the new body bronzer, the kudos and collection bag all out right now.If you are really desperate can actually order the Younique Liquid Foundation if you buy this Stroke of Beauty collection.
My Race to Green
So as you can probably tell, it’s been a great and exciting week…I’ve been keeping track of my “race to green” here on my blog, and I gotta be honest with you, it’s not looking hugely promising for this month.
Well, unless all of my team mates start to really kick some ass…(Some already are, thankfully). We’ll see.
I’ll keep trying until I reach Green status. I had felt like it would be this month – primarily as I’ve gotten quite a few recruits lately, and we were launching all these new products (which I assumed everyone would be buying like I did). Well, not so much…Oh well, I’ll keep praying for a miracle. I do love a good challenge anyway! See you next time lovely! x
Happy Valentine’s Day, lovelies. Well, by the time you read this it may have come and gone for another year, as a guess, but wanted to say it just the same. For this My Week in Younique update, we’ll talk a bit about what’s been happening since the last update – like the new team mate Tabitha, how my new “Welcome Back Kit” arrived (and so I did a video for its unboxing), the February kudos and info on the next Younique incentive trip and a few links to blog posts about joining younique, sponsors, and frequently asked questions that you may not have seen this past week or so, too!
My Welcome Back Kit
Last month, Younique offered a sweet little incentive to welcome back lapsed presenters and they called it the Welcome Back Kit. I must admit I was a bit envious when I saw it – mostly for the bag but a few other things in it too…So imagine my joy when I learned that we were going to be able to buy it ourselves from February 1. Buy, I did. I couldn’t resist, and I even made a little video unboxing it, or rather just after I unboxed it.
Speaking of Welcomes…
Welcome to Tabitha – she is the newest recruit – and she hails from Wisconsin.
To be honest with you I’d have hoped for something a bit more, ahem, romantic for February Kudos (last year was great) but this year it’s merely “Free shipping” over a certain amount. Basically if you buy some lashes and just about anything else you get Free shipping so from that standpoint it’s pretty decent…but like I say I’d have hoped they’d have thought a bit more out of the box for the Valentine Kudos…Maybe a pink lip stick or stain with a liner. Something….
I think something a bit more cute and creative would have helped me reach my goal of 10,000 PRS which I am inching my way toward (and had hoped I’d reach this month). But hey ho, we got FREE SHIPPING. Better luck with March’s Kudos….or hopefully some new products.
I’ve heard there will be new Younique Products for March 2016 but have yet to see an official update on that. I await that news with baited breath. It’s always so very exciting when we launch new products, collections, kudos all at once! If it does happen in March – I will receive that new 10k charm – mark my words.
So anyway it’s a great time to join Younique. If you’re looking for a Younique sponsor then this, one of my latest posts,“How to Find a Younique Sponsor” may be helpful to you. That’s of course if you’re not interested in joining my team right now…or even if you are it’s some “food for thought”. I also just blogged another Younique FAQs post so if you have some questions before joining then why not have a look at them?
Younique has announced another incentive trip – this time to Mexico. I am not a huge fan of the idea of cruises to be honest with you (would rather a resort trip) but I have to say I kind of like the idea of this one so I am gonna go for it.
If I can earn it maybe I’ll take Younique Dadalong. Don’t old folks love cruises?
That’s about all for another update of My Week in Younique. If there’s anything I can do to help you…please feel free to reach out. Details are up in the header here.
Here we are, it’s just two minutes until February now, and so time to share another My Week in Younique! As we leave January behind (praise Buddha), we kick off another month and launch in another country – France! This post sees three lovely additions to my team. Let’s wrap Jan before we talk about Feb!
Younique January Blues
January was dismal, I’ll be honest with you. There were no sales and no recruits for me – the whole month until this weekend. At least I got a last minute mascara sale in, but that was it! Ugh!
I know I shouldn’t admit to such things but sometimes Younique is like that. Heck, sometimes life is like that. Highs and Lows. Ebb and Flow. January was just low, end of story. Not just for me but many of my team mates too. Few of us did anything this month. Newcomer Annabelle rocked it right out of the ballpark. You should totally check out Annabelle’s videos on her FB group – as she’s fantastic!
Yesterday, Saturday, I a lovely person called Sharon joined the team. I’d had several equiries this week about joining younique so it was great one finally did. Then later in the afternoon another joined – Jay in the USA. Later that night while I was out at the movies a third person joined the team – Gillian just outside Glasgow. So three is in fact a charm and my personal best for Younique recruits! I celebrated by writing a blog last night “How to Find a Younique Sponsor” which may prove helpful to some!
Anyway so yes, January was less than stellar for myself and the Ateam…but it sure ended on a high note.
Fab February France – Bonjour
So again, as I said previously, we launch in France in a matter of hours. Tout le monde semble très excité! j’espere trouver beaucoup de gens se joindre à moi – avec Younique.
Well OK, so my French is a tad rusty. I’ll work on that and go back to English for now.
I’m hoping to have some lovely makeup lover to #jointheAteam soon – and for an excuse to pop back over there later this year. Any excuse, right?
Younique Customer Kudos for Feb
You can tell that I am very excited about February. In the morning we will find out what this months customer kudos will be. Last year it was awesome. It had a super cute pink bag, with some 3D Fiber Lashes, a lip gloss and eye liner too – bundled. I just pray that this year’s will be just as good if not better. Personally speaking, the January Kudos left a little to be desired. Eye Lash Curler? Cute as it may be, and good as it may work, it was a bit “Meh” – too hard to excited over. February will definitely top that one, right? Ask me in nine hours.
Oh and it’s a Leap Year, so apart from the obvious advantage or being able to propose to your guy, as it’s a bit longer there is an increased sales potential!
Speaking of sales, my goal over the next month is to hit the 10,000 PRS – so I can earn another charm for my collection!
Then my next goal after that is to hit Green Status Elite – which feels a little impossible right now, to be honest, but surely it must be doable, as many before me have done it! So Green it is!
So that’s about it. My team update (welcoming three new recruits), the Younique France update (just hours away), my Younique goals at the moment,….and a brand new Fab Feb France Foundation and Fun party to kick of the month! Hope it’s a great one! I gotta get some sleep and when i wake up – it’s a new month with a new customer kudos and new territory! Brilliant!
It’s Christmas time…A time to celebrate life, family and, well, makeup! It’s been a fantastic but often challenging year with Younique. It’s actually been more quiet than last December – both for myself and my company – but hopefully lots of people will get money and want to shop for makeup either direct or via my Younique shop.
Merry Christmas to Me!
Yesterday, Christmas Eve, my latest Younique order arrived – Moodstruck3 Opulent Lipsticks: Conceited, Stinkin’ Rich and Pretentious. (While I do love the lipsticks immensely I certainly wouldn’t choose the names they’ve chosen for some of these things. Surely there must be other better more positive names than Pretentious and Conceited.) Look forward to sampling them over the coming days just the same.
The other thing that’s made my Christmas for 2015 was that I finally reached Blue Status with Younique this month – due to having an extraordinary November. I’ll be honest, I’d hoped to have been at least Green status by now, but month after month, even hitting Pink has been a challenge.
Find a Younique Sponsor
Today I woke up and noticed that newest company member, a lovely English lass, Annabelle has officially qualified as a White Status presenter. Annabelle, a makeup artist in England, is the first recruit of my Aussie Rock Star Helen.
Helen, herself, is a seasoned MLM-er. With Younique, if you’re planning on treating Younique like a business your team is essential.
So when I know someone wants to build their team, I do all I can to help that…As I get regular emails from people considering joining Younique, I help my team build theirs.
No matter who you sign up under, you’ll still be in my company and therefor qualify for any Social Media training you may desire. But all the ladies in the company have reasons to sign up under. We all have our assets!
If you’re interested in joining Younique right now, then click the ‘Find a Sponsor’ button below and join Helen’s team now and we’ll welcome you to our company.
Over the past two months, the main product people have been enquiring about is our Touch Liquid Mineral Foundation. There’s been fairly universal frustration, from both presenters and customers, about the lack of shades in stock. I recently blogged about the Foundation and some substitutes here.
Have just finished highlighting my fave products of 2015 in my 12 Days of Younique. It was actually challenging to choose my favourite items – there are so many eye, face, lip and skin care products. A few of them which didn’t make the list came awfully close!
Well, after a few weeks of blogging every day here on Younique by Thea, I think I may just take a week off now that it’s Christmas Day. If you have any questions about joining Younique, feel free to get in touch (I’ll keep monitoring email as much as possible). It’s a great time to launch your own Younique business as we kick off a New Year.
Will be back before the year is finished but time to take a few days off just now.
Welcome back to another instalment of My Week in Younique where this week I talk about my team’s achievements, how to get the 3D Fiber Lashes+ just in time for the holidays, the December Kudos (which is awesome by the way!) and my biggest news of all is that Black Friday made me BLUE status (Finally)!!!
Big High Five to Helen
Once again, my sole Aussie recruit, Helen, has kicked-ass. I’ve just noticed that two presenters signed up on my mother’s birthday and Helen was one. That has to be a great omen! Helen (pictured here with wee Amy) smashed sales in November, hitting Yellow status and outselling more than the next top selling presenter by more than double.
For that reason I’d really like to help her build her team up and reach the Fast Start promotion.
So for the next few enquiries I get here, I’ll have them sign up under Helen. They’ll still be a part of my team (entitled to any FREE Blogging or Social Media coaching) but they’ll signed up under Helen as their sponsor! Win/win as this gal’s going places!!
The trick I’m learning with Younique is to help your recruits build their teams. We are nothing without our teams. So it’s not just about having Younique recruits, it’s about formulating a team.
Personally speaking I’ve had lots of recruits in the first year, over 20, but 50% of whom haven’t done a thing…
Also worth mentioning is our next team presenter to promote up to Yellow since Helen was Louise. Well done girl!!
Also a big shout out to my fellow Cali Gals – Tina and Teri who are inching their way toward the Yellow promotion too! They may even make it this month collecting their pay-bump, up to 25%, just in time for Christmas.
More New Younique Product News: Buy the December Kudos!
So one of the most exciting things to happen this week is the announcement of the new December Kudos. Not only is it my fave product the Splurge Cream Eye Shadows but if you buy a set of three (and as luck would have it there are three new colours this month) – you get a FREE, brand new product – the Moodstruck Precision Liquid Eye Liner…How amazing is that? Of course I had to buy mine last night as I always aspire to have every Younique product in stock. (Any excuse right?)
3D Fiber Lashes+: One Set Left!
I currently am down to my last set of 3D Fiber Lashes in stock. Sold one this afternoon to a woman in Glasgow who phoned up last night needing a set for a present for her sister-in-law. We met, she paid me her £23 and received her 3D lashes and a FREE greeting card too.
Though I say I am down to my last set, there are five more sets (plus one from the Black Friday deal) that have been dispatched so do hope they arrive tomorrow or Saturday.
If you’re anywhere in the UK, for the next week, I can save you some money on shipping and you’ll receive them quicker but after next weekend I’ll be off for the holidays so act fast! To be fair if you needed some 3D lashes plus over the festive period I’m sure I’ll still sort you out. So yes, the choice is up to you whether you wish to buy direct from me (to save time and money) or order them online 24/7.
Younique Black Friday Made Me Blue
Finally, as many will know, I have been a Younique presenter since the company launched in the UK on November 1, 2014. I had not tried the products, just took a chance on the £69 kit start up cost and hoped for the best.
Well, as a social media trainer, Younique was a good fit for me. I already was on every channel there is (just about) and I know the basics of SEO as well.
So off I went and quickly qualified as White status, then Yellow, hit the “Fast Start” bonus and Pink…where I stalled for a year.
Younique is a fun of course, but often a very frustrating business. It’s definitely not for anyone who is just hoping to make a fast buck (or pound or euro). If I was only in it for the money I’d have quit nine months ago. It’s also not for anyone who is easily put off by other people’s negativity (family, friends, Younique haters etc). If you’re someone who isn’t of strong mind you’ll probably give up.
But thankfully this week – thirteen months of tenacity paid off and I finally reached Blue Status with Younique! I’ve had a lot of people asking me what that actually means. Well for one it means I’m halfway up the Younique ladder (or so). Four more levels to go – Green, Orange, Purple and Black.
It also means I’ll make 4% on my company sales (the downline below me). Looking forward to that first Blue payment soon!
I will be honest with you – I was delighted to reach blue at 11:57pm Sunday night. It happened as I was on my weekly training call with my team – e.g. Kelly. She got to witness first hand as I almost started to cry with excitement, relief and a few other emotions. Though I have to be honest you, I’m proud of hitting Blue with its 4000 sales but right around now Green is looking impossible. Do hope it doesn’t take another thirteen months, like it did to reach blue status, to promote to the next level – GREEN!!
Only time will tell…
Younique by Thea – Gift Vouchers!
Don’t forget I’m now selling Younique by Thea Gift Vouchers in the UK. You buy them – and the recipient shops through me directly and I send them to the desired address! Easy peasy! Perfect for anyone who needs a last minute gift idea for the makeup lover in their life!
Welcome to another instalment of My Week in Younique where I talk about the latest news both from HQ and as per my experience as a Younique presenter and sponsor. This week we have team news and achievements, update on Kudos, and the big news Younique by Thea gift vouchers are available – just in time for the holidays! A wee bit about Black Friday too!
November Kudos is Killing It
Well the November 2015 Kudos have been so popular they’re nearly sold out. HQ wrote on our “Presenters Only” Facebook page last night to say the curtain is drawing to a close on this popular primer product for the eyes.
I managed to put through an order on Day 1 of the month so that I could make sure I got it and after selling out of all of my 3D Fiber Lashes put in a subsequent order to earn another one. Might be willing to sell or even give it away! It’s a tiny wee product to prime your eyes. I’d recommend it. As it’s been such a success it will likely be available for purchase in the near future (as a guess)?
Younique by Thea Gift Vouchers
Do you need a last minute gift? Or simply want to thank someone for something? Maybe you know someone loves makeup, but you aren’t sure what to get them? Then this is the perfect solution just for you…
Vouchers start at just £15.00 (Plus £3.30 shipping and handling). Find more over on the new Younique by Thea Gift Vouchers page. Though you can pay by Paypal just now – I’m currently looking at other potential payment providers for those who prefer not to use PayPal!
Younique Black Friday 2015
The team is going fantastic this month. Many of my fabulous recruits, and their recruits, have qualified this month already – and we still have a whole week to go!
The company is slowly promoting – with one pink like me (Kelly Roach) and several fabulous Yellows too. The most recent promotion to Yellow is Helen Rahn in Australia who just promoted last week! Now we need to get her some recruits so she can reach Fast Start*.
I suspect we’ll be able to accrue some good sales on Friday when the Younique Black Friday offer gets posted on the morning (UK time).
Last year was a lovely offer, which I grabbed for myself and a few clients. Do hope that this one will be just as good.
In anticipation I’ve already scheduled a party for Black Friday! Hopefully my girls have been doing similar!
This is a real exciting time to join Younique – in the run up to the holidays!
Oh before I go – I did get an email yesterday asking if I was going to be having any “Cheeky wee Black Friday deals” and the answer is yes and no. I won’t be giving a way anything cheap but any mascara bought direct off me will receive FREE shipping – this weekend only! This offer is good Friday, Saturday and Sunday only!
Well this is just a short update before the big reveal on Friday. I’ll definitely write a blog as fast as I can about the Younique Black Friday deal. Check back then. In the mean time if you’re interested in joining Younique and have any questions please do reach out. I’d love to hear from you!
Trust me though, I’ve been working as hard as ever on the business and so has most of my company! So here’s a bit of the latest info on new products, new team achievements and some info about my upcoming Younique by Thea gift vouchers.
So on the first of the month I ordered a few extra sets of 3D Fiber Lashes+ to have on hand and in doing so qualified for the November Kudos of the brand new Eye Primer. It’s not a product you can currently buy but you can get it as a bonus purchase as this month’s Kudos.
It was much smaller than I’d expected but you really don’t need to use much. Two wee dots on your finger and you’re good to prime your eyes!
Super proud of my latest recruit Charlotte to qualify officially as a White Status presenter with over 200 PRS (Personal Retail Sales).
Throughout many of the My Week in Younique (and the aforementioned year update) I have said “Younique is not for everyone” so it really makes me happy when I see ladies in my company taking to it like a duck to water…Their love of Younique makes me truly happy.
Now if only all of my company members felt that way…Sadly, one of the recent recruits decided the products (and prices) were not for her, and so she has left in the first 90 days. I guess that’s made tonight’s achievement by Charlotte all the more pleasing to me! Way to go girl!
Not doing too bad myself thanks to my team and for my own efforts (my mascara purchases, a few direct 3D Fiber Lashes sales, and one stranger in Indiana buying the Cloud 9 kit) – I’m nearly qualified as Pink again myself and we’re only halfway through November.
Now if I could just reach Blue…(Speaking of which I created a “Blue party”link in case you want to spend a few pennies on makeup!)
New Splurges Arrived!!
If you have ever seen any of my other blog or social media posts you’ll know the lashes aren’t my favourite product but maybe the Splurge Cream Eye Shadows are. You can see they have my name written all over them!
Well, let’s see, in the past week or so I’ve received a number of new ones – Noble (H), Extravagant (E), Whimsical (A), Skeptical (!) and my replacement of my fave Elegant (Top left). That Elegant would suit any eye at all. Seriously it’s neutral and glorious (not to be confused with our Glorious Primer of course).
I highly recommend you check out Splurge Cream Eye Shadows. I’d never worn them before Younique but now I can’t live without it. (Well, of course I could live without it and all makeup, but I’d not want to!)
Younique Gift Vouchers
This weekend I’ve spent a lot of time working on the new Younique gift vouchers which can be purchased in the UK for birthdays, anniversaries, Christmas or any special occasion or reason someone may might want to treat someone else for. You’ll be able to pay by Paypal (have just set up a new UK business account to handle the transactions in the UK – and have a separate PayPal for all USA business), cash or BACS payments. They’ll be available in a variety of increments and if someone has a special amount they want it in they can contact me for a bespoke payment link just for them.
There will be more information added to the site, about the Younique gift vouchers, in the next few days (hopefully). Will get them posted as soon as I can. That said I am about to have my busiest two weeks of the whole year so it may not go off as planned.
That’s a wrap for another My Week in Younique. If you are interested in joining Younique but have questions please reach out to me in one of the ways listed above on this site. You may find the Younique FAQs post helpful and also the 10 Reasons to Join Younique as well.
Welcome back to another My Week In Younique. Last week, I did a pretty massive post called My Year in Younique to mark the one year anniversary of signing up as a Younique presenter and sponsor.
Today though marks the date Younique launched in the UK. We officially began selling here on November 1, 2014.
I can’t believe how fast the time has gone and we’re now heading slowly into the holiday season. Anyway it’s time to update you on this My Week in Younique – new products, new kudos, and a wee team update too.
New Younique Product
Today we launched a new Younique product called Moodstruck Minerals Eye Primer. I didn’t know a thing about that one, so it was quite a surprise when I logged on and saw it was this month’s Kudos – free (with a somewhat large purchase).
The other exciting released today was the new Splurge Cream Eye Shadow colour in Skeptical. It’s a beautiful charcoal tone. I can’t wait to buy this one I have to say. One of these days I’ll work out how to do a proper smokey eye. I keep trying with very mixed results.
One of my teamies decided to leave Younique this week! So I’ll be honest with you, that was a bit of a bummer. But on the same day, another lapsed presenter re-activated her account and put through an order! Welcome back Tina my fellow Californian (I find it funny that the three Californians in my company, well including me, are all 4-letter Ts. Thea. Tina. Teri. But I digress)
Also this week I welcomed my first recruit from Wales, Emma-Louise. One step forward to steps back. Direct sales, Younique or otherwise, is a numbers game. (Remember – “Younique is not for everyone!”)
Considering starting your own Younique business? Googling to learn more about whether “it’s a scam”, a “pyramid scheme”, too good to be true OR if it’s just right for you?
Read on to hear about my journey to the one-year mark. It’s my hope that this anniversary update will shed some light on what it’s been like for me to be a Younique presenter and sponsor for my first year. That said, everyone’s experience will be different, and as I often say: “Younique is not for everyone…”
My Year in Younique
One year ago, on October 26, 2014, I made the somewhat unusual decision to join Younique. I say “unusual” for a couple of reasons.
1) Right up until the week before I joined, I’d never even heard of the products (not even the flagship 3D Fiber Lashes mascara!)
2) Another reason that it was sort of “unusual”, was because I was never someone that anyone would consider a glamorous, makeup sort of girl.
Though I’ve always worn makeup, I wasn’t ever particularly excited by it. So it was a bit of a blind and bold decision to join Younique like I did (and more than a few friends were a little shocked).
I figured, in the worse case scenario, I was out £79, but at least I’d have some makeup to show for it.
You know what? I am now more excited by makeup than I ever thought possible!
So people can change!
Charting My Younique Path
Research. Research. Research. Right after I joined, for the weeks that followed while I waited for my kit to arrive, I could barely sleep due to my excitement!
I would stay up late watching tutorials and webinars, or surfing around for information about the company and its products.
When I found any harsh criticism about the company or any products, I had to take it with a pinch of salt, and not let it put me off the company entirely (a few times it nearly did but I’m glad I didn’t listen!)
Younique is not for everyone, and there is no company in the world with 100% satisfaction. Not one.
There will always be haters. The internet is filled with them. There will always be people that have issues with their orders, or who don’t like a product, or are allergic to a product. Again no company in the world will have 100% approval ratings across the board. It’s impossible.
Anyway it was all about the research those early weeks. I took the time to look at different presenters’ social media profiles, Youtube channels (etc) – and noticed ones that really “worked” and the ones that, well, didn’t (e.g. those who were just spamming their shop links left, right and center, in other words – they just tried to sell, sell, sell). Those sorts of marketing tactics have given Younique a bit of a bad rep. (Many people have commented on how “spammy” some of their presenter friends or followers are – which makes it challenging for those of us who don’t want to be seen that way!)
My “day job” is as a Social Media Trainer, traveling across Scotland, so I do have a very good working knowledge with all the major platforms and many of the non-majors (‘ello, Tsu, Blab…)
Younique is all about Facebook – they’re linked. I, however, am not. So I decided, from day one, not to bother with Facebook pages or even Facebook parties (they’re a pain to make successful). It appeared to me that most presenters were focusing their efforts on FB – so it felt over-saturated there, so I decided to leave them all to it.
What’s so great about Younique is you can choose how you want to market your own business. You need FB to join up, but no one says that’s how you have to spend all your marketing efforts…
So, as ever, I chose a different path. I’m a blogger. I’ve blogged for many, many years now. I also teach SEO (search engine optimization). I love Twitter and I am a huge fan of Google+.
When I joined Younique, very few people were focusing on G+, which has always been a fave platform of mine, so that’s where I spend most of my energy. That was where I could be a bigger fish in a smaller pond.
To this day, there are only a dozen or so (if that) Younique Presenters on Google+ that I feel are even doing it right. By “right” I mean posting content, telling stories, engaging with others – which is what the platform is all about.
The rest are just spamming their profiles with their own party links saying “shop my party” – (essentially treating it like it’s Facebook). It’s not like Facebook at all, so it’s not going to work if you do that.
Well, I can’t give all my strategies away here…but if you #jointheAteam, I will share them. I offer an open Sunday night coaching call with my team each week to talk about their social media strategies.
It should be noted that a few of my team mates are doing great work on Facebook and more power to them! It’s a personal choice! You can do what’s right for you!
Younique Recruiting, aka Sponsoring
Boy, I have learned a lot about myself, and managing a team in this first year. To be fair, I’ve also learned that there’s still much room for improvement…
It took 18 days to get my first recruit (a straight man, rather ironically) and a day later my second joined my team.
About a week later four more! I was flying! But alas, most of my first few recruits never lasted beyond the first 90 days – much to my dismay.
Thankfully two have – Marie and Karen (pictured with me on the right). Those two were friends before Younique, and I am pleased to say remain dear friends and active presenters!
By the end of first month, on November 30, 2014, I managed to reach Yellow status (the first level up the ladder after the starting point, white).
A week later “Fast Start”* (In the first 90 days having 1. $2000 in Personal Retail Sales (PRS) and 2. Sponsor at least 3 new Presenters).
I was over the moon about that and the cute two charms that followed.
Headed home to California for the holidays with high hopes of recruiting two friends in particular out there. I felt certain both gals would be amazing at Younique. We often do that – think that of our friends, but for whatever reason, though they both loved the products, neither seemed too interested in joining my team.
It’s hard not to get disappointed when your family or friends don’t really seem to take an interest or support you.
In a strange twist of fate, two other long-standing friends did join my team! One in particular had done direct sales (a few times) so I was certain she’d rock this business! No doubt whatsoever!!
Well, she didn’t, and by the end of her 90 days, she was gone too! Dang!
The other teamie remains, but only buys the products for herself and no other orders. Still I’m glad she’s kept it up this year! It all helps!
By the end of December, month two, myself and my company did nearly 2700 PRS (personal retail sales), so I managed to hit Pink status for the very first time! It seemed almost impossible to hit that 2000 PRS, but I did and I was gonna keep going all the way to the top (Black status)!!
I’d high hopes of reaching Blue in January or February then Green by March (in time for St Patrick’s Day or something), but I guess I wasn’t specific enough, because it didn’t happen last March but maybe next?
You see, I’d reached Pink so fast that I was lulled into thinking that was easy enough, but then it didn’t happen again for another NINE months! D’oh. Talk about frustrating! So it feels like I’ve been stalled at Pink forever – and I am really hoping these holidays will help me, and my team, to promote up the ladder.

What I Spent on Younique: Year 1
There are certain things we can and can’t say regarding income made with Younique. We’re not allowed to promise anything with regards to income, and, frankly, I’d be amazed if you made a profit in Younique in the first year…Yes, am sure some Youniques do/have, (some even in their first month) but I personally suspect most will not…
I have spent a few thousand pounds on Younique products this year.
Don’t worry though – in reality, you don’t have to buy anything after your startup presenter kit.
You get the makeup in that kit, and the FREE website, and that’s you.
That’s all you ever have to spend…
But I have always strived to have every product that we sell, so that I can use it myself, and also to show people who are interested in seeing them in person…
Also it should be noted, that some of those orders were for other people who gave me money to buy their products (saving them the £6.95 UK shipping fees).
Have I earned enough to break even? No, probably not. I suspect I’m running at a slight loss, BUT I have had great makeup that I’ve used all year. So not really a “loss”.
I’d have bought makeup anyway and this way all the makeup I buy I receive 25% back on. Not only that I’m paid three hours after ever sale! Plus when I shop through my own party links, I get to earn 1/2 price credit, and even free makeup in the form of y-cash to spend.
So in my mind it’s not been a financial loss at all…if that makes sense?
“Are you Making Money with Younique?”
If anyone is expecting to join Younique and for it to be “easy money”- then they’ve got another thing coming. It’s not easy. As I say all the time “it’s not for everyone”.
In fact, the Younique presenter agreement sums it up pretty well: “financial success with Younique requires commitment, effort, and sales skill.”
I second that emotion, and I am learning more each day, which is a good thing, I think.
The thing is I get people saying “yeah but” to me a lot. “Yeah but are you making any money at Younique yet?”
How many businesses do you know make money in the first year?
Or even the second or third? Why should a direct sales business be any different? It takes time. Lots of it. It’s not throw a few links up and rack in the dough. Those efforts will show no return whatsoever.
For me though, I’m prepared to give it time. I am putting in a lot of hard work now – so that in a few years, it IS making me money. It’s starting to now…
Most of my sales (and my recruits) now come from strangers – via this very blog. Thank you for that.
The challenge with tallying what I’ve earned with Younique is that I’ve given some makeup away as gifts, I have been paid cash in US dollars and UK pounds, I get paid by PayPal (in both currencies) and BACS bank transfers too. I also sell through my youniqueproducts/thea site – so I’ve lot of monetary places to be keeping track of…I’m still going through it all, and I do look forward to seeing the overall total (and so does my accountant Erik!)
You’re Nothing Without a Team
To make any money and promote within the company, you’re going to need to be prepared to build a team of people who are prepared to do the same. When I joined I heard “recruit 5 and train them to recruit 5, who recruit 5” – often. Sounds easy enough, doesn’t it?
Pah, it’s not.
Or at least it hasn’t been for me!
I mentioned a few of my own recruits, of which there have been 21 to date (I was hoping for 3 more by today so it will have been an average of two per month, but 21 it is…)
Some people have joined my team and never even spoken to me, and then dropped off. (Presumably just “kit snatchers”).
Some have joined my team, spoken to me and said they wanted to build a successful business, and then did nothing at all, then dropped off.
Some have dropped off due to life getting the way, and then reactivated and kept going! Hooray!
Some are actually working their business and recruiting team mates of their own. Double hooray!
To me, the hardest part of the business – not the selling of the makeup (it sells itself), but the recruiting like minded (ambitious) teamies or as I call them “rock stars”.
It’s been particularly hard to watch people join only to do nothing (or very little) then quit. It’s really hard to not take that personally – even though it has little or nothing to do with me.
No one’s direct sales success or failure can be solely down to their upline or sponsor. My own sponsor ended up quitting halfway through the year.
There is no excuse to not be a success in your own right – given the amount of support there is for Younique. There are webinars, Facebook groups/pages, YouTube channels, blogs, etc.
After the first week, I seldom went to my upline for anything, as a quick search of Google usually revealed the solution, or sometimes a chat with Younique support. It was great I could lean on her but I tried hard to not have to!
Back to my recruits, though…Yes, many of them have quit, but many have remained and started to build a team of their own, as I said. To date, there has been a company high of 34 people. How cool is that? Active at this moment? 20. Three of those are marked for deletion again. D’oh!
Younique is not for everyone.
Another challenge with a team is not taking things personally when some people don’t really respond to, or resonate with, you, so they find other presenters who resonate with them more.
But if I look at my own style of learning I did the same thing. There are some Younique Black Status presenters I think are amazing (like the ones pictured here) and then there are others who aren’t my cup of tea.
Rapport is a strange beast and not everyone gels.
Not everyone relates to my style of Younique coaching, so I’m having to learn to not take that sort of thing personally! I try to continually remind them I am there if they need me to lean on but many have found other presenters to go to and that’s good! Whatever works!
One thing I have loved about Younique are the incentives. Getting different charms for each level, and for fast start and the recent +YOU movement. It gives you something to work toward. I’m a sucker for those charms. I want them all and I’ll get there eventually. This email came in mid-week and it made my day. It was fabulous to recruit three presenters in one week! That was three weeks ago…
NOTE: The day after posting this I finally got another recruit Emma! Meanwhile I anxiously await for my new +YOU charm to add to my collection!
My Younique Wrap
So that’s My Year in Younique summary for this first, rather challenging year. My goal, if you’re interested, is still to promote up to Blue or Green (if not higher) for next year’s update.
It’s taken quite a while to get here, but I truly feel that I have the start a totally awesome team now! We just all need to synchronise our awesomeness. It’s often been the case that I had a great month in personal sales and my team didn’t. Or they did great and my sales were patchy.
To be successful in this business (or any business really), I believe it takes a positive attitude, tons of tenacity and self-belief. It’s also about hard work and dedication, not just on your business but on yourself. Perseverance is paramount.
There will be days when you want to pack it in, but if you can step away for a day or two, you’ll often come back feeling renewed. Set goals, and make step towards them daily in some way. It’s about riding out the highs and lows. You get a cluster of sales, you’re on a high, then you have nothing for two weeks, you’re on a low…repeat, lather, rinse.
Well that’s been my experience and it should be noted that we’re all different so Younique experience may vary! I’ve met a lot of people that have loved the company and the products and many who haven’t. As I keep saying, “Younique is not for everyone” – but it is for me!
This year, I think I’ve learned that a successful year is not solely based on monetary terms, because every single day I’m learning more about selling, people, communication, mentoring and business management. And you know what? Some of those aforementioned strangers have now now become truly amazing and inspiring friends!

Since I started to get into Younique, I’ve been trying to keep an honest blog about my experience as a Younique presenter and sponsor. The series is called “My Week in Younique” – and I update as often as I possibly can – though, admittedly, not weekly.
