4 Years with Younique – My Youniqueversary

UPDATED 2020: Am currently still a presenter but not marketing the products or actively sponsoring any longer. If you need a hands-off sponsor then I’m your gal.

My 4 Years with Younique4 Years with Younique – I’m Still Here

It is hard to believe it’s my Younique anniversary again and it’s now 4 years with  Younique. Where does the time go? What has happened in that time? What level have I gotten to? Why have I been 4 years with Younique and haven’t given up when so many people have? What’s been my experience with recruiting Younique presenters? What are my fave products? This is just another post about my experience of Younique – after four years of being a presenter.

The First Year with Younique

In the first year I was all excited. I was creating blog posts. I was sharing pictures all over social media. I was getting sales from family, friends and strangers. I was moving up the ladder. I was enthusiastic. It’s how almost all new business owners act…especially in direct sales. That excitement is bleeding out of your pores but it’s often short lived and reality sets in as you realise running a business, MLM or otherwise is hard graft. You have to ascertain what works and what doesn’t.

In a business like Younique the marketing for me, as chosen from day one, was online marketing and not hosting parties. Other people would be successful at those online parties but I know from the start that was now my bag. Nor was having in home parties. My way was social media, all the way.

Month 1: I hit Fast Start and Tiered up to Yellow

I joined Younique on Oct 25, 2014 – a week before its UK launch. My aim was to hit “Fast Start” and tier up to Yellow Status so I could get that pay bump from 20% to 25%!

I reached Yellow by the last day of November, month one as a Younique presenter and a week later managed to say Hello “Fast Start”.

My Mascara Business

Buy 3D FIber Lashes+ Mascara from Younique by TheaBack in the day, for the first year especially, I traveled around with the Younique Moodstruck 3D Fiber Lashes Mascara in my bag. I bought in bulk (10 at a time) and always had one ready to sell, and did often!

That year it really was about the Fiber Mascara. For the next year too. Not long after there was the launch of the 3D Fiber Lashes+.

For some reason though my own mascara sales started to dwindle down. The people who were buying every few months were not doing so any more. That coincided with more similar brands and my own marketing efforts tailing off.

Younique Sponsorships Over the Years

I don’t actively attempt to sponsor new Younique recruits, yet I still manage to recruit a few every feew months. Recruits join my Younique team, mostly through my blogging efforts here (my main business blog) and through a very successful post from my early days with Younique – which is over on Linkedin.

The Youniques that I tend to sponsor seem to want to do their own thing, and need or want little, if any support. I am always happy to give any advice, tips and support, but most just seem to want to do their own thing.

My first recruit was a guy and an owner of a hair salon here in Paisley. Then a friend and business coach joined, another friend and so on…Eventually it became people I don’t know. To date, I have now sponsored nearly forty Younique presenters!

Though it sounds great to claim, many don’t last past the first three to six months, which is super disappointing.

Only one has lasted throughout nearly my entire time with the company. Lovely Lucy Wilkinson who joined in June of 2015 and has been a rock star ever since both in terms of selling and recruiting.

Highlights of My 4 Years With Younique

Pink then Blue Status - Younique by Thea

In addition to my early feats of Yellow and Fast Start, I hit Pink November 29, 2015 (a year and a bit after joining Younique) and seemingly a day later tiered up to Blue Status…? That doesn’t make sense to me, but I guess it doesn’t matter at this point. I’ve been stuck at blue ever since.

Another milestone I was so excited to reach was 10,000 PRS. That means I have sold over ten thousand dollars worth or products. Sadly I didn’t earn $10,000 but it was still an exciting moment in March of 2016.

A Younique Summary

Looking back over my 4 years with Younique, the peaks and valleys have been many. It’s been challenging and fun in equal measure. It’s been frustrating and satisfying. I’ve learned a lot about myself, about business and about others.

Historically my best month with Younique seems to be November which makes me wonder if I should make a bit of extra effort and see if I can capitalise on some Black Friday and Holiday sales. It’s worth a shot.

The collections are always worth a push.

Younique is Not For Everyone but It Is for Me

“Younique is not for Everyone” is a sentence I’ve said dozens of times over the four years here.

These days I mostly just run my Younique business for me. I buy my own products, at a discount and to get free credits for future purchases.

I do little to promote or recruit. I still periodically share products on some social media channels, but my focus is elsewhere (on tshirts and merch now).

But you know what? That, to me, is one of the best things of running an MLM (or Direct Sales) business, is that, with the right one, you can pick it up and put it down as it suits you. Work it when you can and don’t when you can’t.

Of course the more you work it the more likely you will see some rewards.

Being Younique is not easy, as I’ve said through the years on this blog. If my own experience is one to go by, more people quit than persevere with it.

So if you’re considering joining Younique – please bear that in mind. It’s not a way to get a quick buck (or pound or euro or whatever currency in your market).  It takes effort, grit and the right mindset. Can you make money it? Sure. Will you? Maybe. Maybe not.

10 Reasons to Join Younique

Is it Time to Join Younique?

If you’re here it’s likely because you’ve been searching for information about joining Younique. Maybe you’re looking to find a sponsor, to work out if “Younique is a scam” or “a horrible pyramid scheme” or too good to be true? Or perhaps you stumbled across this when looking for how to get your hand on some 3D Fiber Lashes?

Well I have lots serious articles about what it’s like to be a Younique presenter, answering lots of questions in my Younique FAQs – but today I simply thought I’d share with you my 10 reasons why you should join Younique or at least to consider joining…

1) FUN

Younique is FUN
Let’s face it, of all the things you can be doing, or selling in this world, makeup is a totally FUN offering! So if you like makeup, and are looking for a sociable business that is FUN, then this is the one. You get to try, buy, and apply makeup to your heart’s content. You can party online or off. It’s totally up to you! The most important thing is to have FUN with it! I do…

 2) FAB

Younique is FAB

Younique sells fabulous, naturally-based makeup and skincare products. If you are all about your natural, mineral-based, paraben-free, makeup that doesn’t contain harmful chemicals and is hypo-allergenic, then you’ll feel great selling these products every day. Many of the products are even 100% natural, some are even vegan, and all of which are cruelty-free.

If you care what you wear, then wear this!

Younique is Flexi
Want a Flexi-time business? Work as little or as much as you want and wherever you want. If you want to run it full time, you can, or if you just want to give it an hour or two of week, that’s ok too. Work at home, in an office, a coffee shop or when waiting to pick up your kids at school. Work on a computer, a tablet or your smart phone. Work at the beach or by the pool if you want (I’ve done it, and I love that!) Younique is a totally flexible business. Do your thing – your way, it’s all ok!

Younique is FAST
Are you ready to go? When you are ready to join Younique, it takes just minutes to sign up. As a Younique presenter, you can start selling within minutes. You, your family, your friends, associates, even strangers, can start shopping immediately through your own Younique web site.

Perhaps even more excitingly, you get paid your commissions (20-30%) just three hours after every sale! Now that is FAST!

Free goodies with Younique

With Younique, you get your own FREE website that has no annual fees. It’s also the place you sell immediately, but also you can earn FREE makeup for yourself through your own party links! How cool is that?

Other ways to get FREE goodies? You can earn a lot of it by hitting “Fast Start”. If that weren’t enough, you’ll also earn FREE Y-cash on you Birthday each year too ($25.00 USD | $30.00 CAD | $33.00 AUD | $35.00 NZD | £20.00 GPB).

So that’s cause of celebration alright! Who doesn’t love FREE stuff?

Freedom to run a Younique Biz your way
Like I said in number 3, in your Younique business, you have the freedom to run it how and where you want.

You have freedom to choose what works best for you to be your most authentic self. If you want to host in home parties, you can. If you want to do it “old-school catalog” way, you can do it that way too. If you want to become a Youtube vlogger or normal blogger, then go for it. If you want to attend events, you can. If Instagram is your channel of choice, you can choose to only market there. Or perhaps you’re a queen pinner then take your business and pin-it to Pinterest. You may be a party girl and host tea parties or lashes and lattes lunch breaks. Younique offers you much freedom to run things your way, each day!

PS: You do not have to have a Facebook business page or host parties on FB, I’ve never done either and I do pretty good with Younique. Do what suits YOU…not your upline.

Younique is in Fashion
From the latest trends like 3D Fiber Lashes, or mineral pigment powders and creamy eye shadows to luxurious lip stains – you’ll always be on trend and in fashion with Younique makeup. They’re constantly adding new products to our lines. See how your Younique sisters are shining their Younique light with various looks created by presenters. Yep, this is most-definitely not your grandma’s makeup company!

Younique FacebookTo be honest, I’m not sure whether it’s a good thing or a bad thing, but you need to have a Facebook account to be a Younique presenter. For many of you who are already posting on Facebook, this is great news!!

You can actually use it to promote your business and make yourself some money while “playing” on there all day anyway. Get paid to play as they say! Promote items via your Facebook business page, or through an event. Or share your Younique life through your profile (Note: FB does have Ts&Cs to prevent you using your profile as a business though – so be careful, be creative!)

For those of you who may not like FB, you don’t actually have to use it for marketing. You can simply use it to log into your account and do your promoting how, when and where you like (I refer you to numbers 3 and 6 above!)

Younique Family
If you have a family yourself, then this business will afford you the ability to spend more time with them. You can help support them by earning extra money each month.

For those of us who don’t have a family (well mine is thousands of miles away), you can become a part of a Younique Family. Your team will become a sort of “family” to you, should you wish to connect to your Y-sisters. I have found it to be a supportive sisterhood and hopefully you will too!

Younique Friends
Similarly to number 9, my tenth reason to join Younique is all about friends. If you have lots already, you can spend more time having fun with them. You can get together with them and have play with your presenters kit filled with products.

Some of them will love it and join your team (my first half-dozen recruits were my friends and my best seller has been a long-time friend). Some friends will be your most supportive customers. Theses are good friends.

You also will likely find you make new friends. I am making friends with many of my upline and downlines alike. Young and old alike – we friends are celebrating a similar mission as business owners, and are encouraging each other along our journeys. Also we help each other on days when we feel like chucking it in, and I’ll be honest with you, those days do happen. They don’t happen for me but when they do it’s good to have a supportive network to see you through!

5 FAQs of Joining Younique - Part 1

5 FAQs of Joining Younique – Part 1

Here are 5 FAQs about Joining Younique that might help you determine wether it’s right for you.

Hey I’m Thea a Blue Exemplary Younique Presenter here to help if you are here because you’re considering joining Younique and need a sponsor. Decided it would be good to go over some questions you may have in a series of FAQs. There are a few more relevant links at the bottom now too!

Let’s see, for starters, I’ve been a Younique presenter since the UK launch Nov 1, 2014.  Here are a few questions I had, or heard, since joining Younique.

When I first learned about the “Younique opportunity”, frankly it all sounded “too good to be true”. The flexible hours. Work from home (or wherever you want). Products that sell themselves (15,000+ lashes sell every day?) Cheap entry costs for a well-stocked presenter’s kit. Let’s not forget the whole Instant Royalties…aka “Get paid daily” thing (which seems a wee bit misleading to me, so I prefer “Get paid just hours after every sale”,  3 hours after, but hey that’s just me).

As I say, it all just sounded soooo great, but a little too easy. I was skeptical about joining Younique so like any prospective recruit I researched – a lot! If you’re reading this, you’re doing your due diligence too. Good for you!

1) “How much does it cost to become a presenter?”

First of all I will tell you where we are. We are currently in the following countries – North America, the UK, Australia, New Zealand, Mexico Germany, France and Spain (Mar 1).

Join Younique - New Presenter kit 2017

Fees to join Younique are the following:

UK £69 | US $99 | Canada $119 | Australia $129 | New Zealand $139 Germany/France/Spain/Ireland/Italy €107 | MXN $172 | Hong Kong $775
+ shipping.

That is all you pay to get your presenter kit and FREE website where you can begin selling within minutes of joining!

  • No, there are no recurring fees – monthly or annually
  • Free Website included with no annual website fees
  • No other items that you have to buy
  • That startup fee gets you a “Presenters Kit” – which changes every quarter or so – and you receive around double that amount in products!
  • There are no other “hidden charges” to speak of. You can buy products to have on hand, such as the lashes, or you don’t have to. That’s all you have to pay to become a Younique presenter.

2) “What support does Younique give?”

A recent email through my blog here asked: “Does Younique provide you with a lot of the marketing articles, stories, before and after shots or is this down to each presenter?”

Well, a bit of both really.

There are copious amounts of photos on the youniqueproducts.com website, and also being shared on the Younique Facebook pages and groups.

As soon as you join, you automatically get added to a private group for Younique Presenters only. Much info, advice, photos and videos are shared there – seemingly hourly!

Frankly, I noticed really early on that there are images all over the Internet for Younique! Some of them are great, and some of them really, well, aren’t. (Tacky comes to mind for some. So if you join, please choose your images wisely.)

Personally I tend to try to make up my own images to share to avoid any copyright infringement, and to build my Younique By Thea brand awareness.

I am not saying my images are “the best”, by any means, but by photographing my own products they’re at least unique to me!

I also try to add my URL to each photo I share.

As soon as you can, I’d recommend that you can also get shots off your happy customers – when you are lucky enough to get those!

3) “Do I need a local Younique sponsor?”

Wee iPhone selfie of Thea Newcomb & Younique sponsor Joanna HunterIt is entirely up to you, but in this day and age, it doesn’t matter where your sponsor is.

I signed up with a woman Joanna who lives in the Scottish Highlands. We’d never met, but we spoke over the phone, through Facebook chat and video Skype. (UPDATE: Met her several months later when she was down in Glasgow)

Now around 1/3 of my team is in America. They could just as easily be in Canada, Australia or New Zealand. I hope to have women in all those countries joining me soon as well as the ones in Germany, MexicoFrance – and now Spain is next!

I’ve written a post called How to Find a Sponsor which may be of use to you. Basically though, if you can, do find someone who resonates with you, has achieved at least a wee bit of Younique “status”, has the start of a team already in place, who’s positive, and really looking to build a serious business for themselves….Go for it!

What is the person doing online? Can you see their activity? This business is primarily conducted online (though some people use catalogs, events and do in-home parties etc) – so how are they doing with their efforts? How many followers do they have? What sort of posts are they making on social media? Is it unique? Or is it just a bunch of spammy sales links? Do they do videos? How do you feel about them?

4) “Is training provided?”

Younique Training Course - in the back office.

For some of us, direct sales is new thing, and is so selling makeup. There is a ridiculous amount of training information out there. Some are better than others in my opinion. Some of the top level presenters are utterly fantastic in their efforts to train via tutorial videos, webinars, slide shows, and presentations. Others, not so much.

There is also a training area in the “back office” which you have access to the moment you sign up.

They’re billed as “weekly courses” but really can be done all at once, or simply whenever you find the time to read through them.

If the person offers bespoke training – so much the better

PS: I offer FREE Social Media coaching to my team if needed and host weekly hangouts on Google (video chats with my team).

5) “How do I get paid by Younique?”

You may have heard that Younique has “Instant Royalties”. As I mentioned, that means that we get paid three hours after every sale! I just got paid shortly ago – from another 3D Fiber Lash order earlier this evening. Yippee! Sure it’s great getting the Younique emails to say another order has just came in, but I’ll be honest with you, I love the one saying that I’ve been paid even better!

Instant Royalties from Younique - PayQucicker Card | youniquebytheaWe get paid into a PayQuicker account. (It’s a little similar to Paypal). Once you reach the $50 threshold, your card is automatically issued to you. You’ll get it within a week or two. Mine was a little bit of a pain to set up. As an American in the UK, I didn’t have a lot of UK “Government issued” forms of ID.

[NOTE: Got there in the end by supplying my UK driver’s license (picture ID) and my national insurance card.]

When you receive your card, you can use it like you would any MasterCard. For us in the UK it’s what I would call a “swipey” card – not a Chip & Pin. So I use it to get petrol (gas), groceries, meals out etc. I sometimes drop it in the bank and use it to pay toward my mortgage…To do that, I download the funds straight into my (“Current”) bank account. There are fees for some card uses, including drawing down to your bank. So do keep an eye on which is most cost effective and do that.

I have found spending online is fabulous. It’s now my “go to” card on Amazon!

More Relevant Younique Info about Joining Younique:

That was just a few of the questions I had – or heard!  As I’ve been a presenter for longer, I’ve continually been adding to the FAQ posts to help people that are researching Younique to find out what it’s really like.

This is not an easy business. For everyone one person who’s making a fortune with it, there are seemingly thousands making nothing. So don’t just join it for the money! Here are some other posts which will hopefully be of use to you.

Finally if you have questions and need a sponsor, then please by all means reach out and I will help you.

If you have questions but already have someone you’re joining with – then please ask them.

That’s what sponsors are there for to offer that guidance and support. Thanks so much!
