My Year in Younique

My Year in Younique - A blog by Thea Newcomb

Thinking about Joining Younique?

Considering starting your own Younique business? Googling to learn more about whether “it’s a scam”, a “pyramid scheme”, too good to be true OR if it’s just right for you?

Read on to hear about my journey to the one-year mark. It’s my hope that this anniversary update will shed some light on what it’s been like for me to be a Younique presenter and sponsor for my first year. That said, everyone’s experience will be different, and as I often say: “Younique is not for everyone…”

My Year in Younique

One year ago, on October 26, 2014, I made the somewhat unusual decision to join Younique. I say “unusual” for a couple of reasons.

Buy 3D Fiber Lashes from Younique By Thea today1) Right up until the week before I joined, I’d never even heard of the products (not even the flagship 3D Fiber Lashes mascara!)

2) Another reason that it was sort of “unusual”, was because I was never someone that anyone would consider a glamorous, makeup sort of girl.

Though I’ve always worn makeup, I wasn’t ever particularly excited by it. So it was a bit of a blind and bold decision to join Younique like I did (and more than a few friends were a little shocked).

I figured, in the worse case scenario, I was out £79, but at least I’d have some makeup to show for it.

You know what? I am now more excited by makeup than I ever thought possible!

So people can change!

Charting My Younique Path

One Year Anniversary - Younique by TheaResearch. Research. Research. Right after I joined, for the weeks that followed while I waited for my kit to arrive, I could barely sleep due to my excitement!

I would stay up late watching tutorials and webinars, or surfing around for information about the company and its products.

When I found any harsh criticism about the company or any products, I had to take it with a pinch of salt, and not let it put me off the company entirely (a few times it nearly did but I’m glad I didn’t listen!)

Younique is not for everyone, and there is no company in the world with 100% satisfaction. Not one.

There will always be haters. The internet is filled with them. There will always be people that have issues with their orders, or who don’t like a product, or are allergic to a product. Again no company in the world will have 100% approval ratings across the board. It’s impossible.

Anyway it was all about the research those early weeks. I took the time to look at different presenters’ social media profiles, Youtube channels (etc) – and noticed ones that really “worked” and the ones that, well, didn’t (e.g. those who were just spamming their shop links left, right and center, in other words – they just tried to sell, sell, sell). Those sorts of marketing tactics have given Younique a bit of a bad rep. (Many people have commented on how “spammy” some of their presenter friends or followers are – which makes it challenging for those of us who don’t want to be seen that way!)

My “day job” is as a Social Media Trainer, traveling across Scotland, so I do have a very good working knowledge with all the major platforms and many of the non-majors (‘ello, Tsu, Blab…)

Younique is all about Facebook – they’re linked. I, however, am not. So I decided, from day one, not to bother with Facebook pages or even Facebook parties (they’re a pain to make successful). It appeared to me that most presenters were focusing their efforts on FB – so it felt over-saturated there, so I decided to leave them all to it.

What’s so great about Younique is you can choose how you want to market your own business. You need FB to join up, but no one says that’s how you have to spend all your marketing efforts…

So, as ever, I chose a different path. I’m a blogger. I’ve blogged for many, many years now. I also teach SEO (search engine optimization). I love Twitter and I am a huge fan of Google+.

When I joined Younique, very few people were focusing on G+, which has always been a fave platform of mine, so that’s where I spend most of my energy. That was where I could be a bigger fish in a smaller pond.

To this day, there are only a dozen or so (if that) Younique Presenters on Google+ that I feel are even doing it right. By “right” I mean posting content, telling stories, engaging with others – which is what the platform is all about.

The rest are just spamming their profiles with their own party links saying “shop my party” – (essentially treating it like it’s Facebook). It’s not like Facebook at all, so it’s not going to work if you do that.

Well, I can’t give all my strategies away here…but if you #jointheAteam, I will share them. I offer an open Sunday night coaching call with my team each week to talk about their social media strategies.

#JoinetheAteam - Younique by Thea

It should be noted that a few of my team mates are doing great work on Facebook and more power to them! It’s a personal choice! You can do what’s right for you!

Younique Recruiting, aka Sponsoring

Boy, I have  learned a lot about myself, and managing a team in this first year. To be fair, I’ve also learned that there’s still much room for improvement…

Younique by Thea with Karen McKay Lanarkshire YouniqueIt took 18 days to get my first recruit (a straight man, rather ironically) and a day later my second joined my team.

About a week later four more! I was flying! But alas, most of my first few recruits never lasted beyond the first 90 days – much to my dismay.

Thankfully two have – Marie and Karen (pictured with me on the right). Those two were friends before Younique, and I am pleased to say remain dear friends and active presenters!

By the end of first month, on November 30, 2014, I managed to reach Yellow status (the first level up the ladder after the starting point, white).

A week later “Fast Start”* (In the first 90 days having 1. $2000 in Personal Retail Sales (PRS) and 2. Sponsor at least 3 new Presenters).

The Highlight of my Week - Receiving these Younique CharmsI was over the moon about that and the cute two charms that followed.

Headed home to California for the holidays with high hopes of recruiting two friends in particular out there. I felt certain both gals would be amazing at Younique. We often do that – think that of our friends, but for whatever reason, though they both loved the products, neither seemed too interested in joining my team.

It’s hard not to get disappointed when your family or friends don’t really seem to take an interest or support you.

In a strange twist of fate, two other long-standing friends did join my team! One in particular had done direct sales (a few times) so I was certain she’d rock this business! No doubt whatsoever!!

Well, she didn’t, and by the end of her 90 days, she was gone too! Dang!

The other teamie remains, but only buys the products for herself and no other orders. Still I’m glad she’s kept it up this year! It all helps!

By the end of December, month two, myself and my company did nearly 2700 PRS (personal retail sales), so I managed to hit Pink status for the very first time! It seemed almost impossible to hit that 2000 PRS, but I did and I was gonna keep going all the way to the top (Black status)!!

I’d high hopes of reaching Blue in January or February then Green by March (in time for St Patrick’s Day or something), but I guess I wasn’t specific enough, because it didn’t happen last March but maybe next?

You see, I’d reached Pink so fast that I was lulled into thinking that was easy enough, but then it didn’t happen again for another NINE months! D’oh. Talk about frustrating! So it feels like I’ve been stalled at Pink forever – and I am really hoping these holidays will help me, and my team, to promote up the ladder.

Watch this space….

What I Spent on Younique: Year 1

There are certain things we can and can’t say regarding income made with Younique. We’re not allowed to promise anything with regards to income, and, frankly, I’d be amazed if you made a profit in Younique in the first year…Yes, am sure some Youniques do/have, (some even in their first month) but I personally suspect most will not…

I have spent a few thousand pounds on Younique products this year.

Don’t worry though – in reality, you don’t have to buy anything after your startup presenter kit.

You get the makeup in that kit, and the FREE website, and that’s you.

That’s all you ever have to spend…

But I have always strived to have every product that we sell, so that I can use it myself, and also to show people who are interested in seeing them in person…

Also it should be noted, that some of those orders were for other people who gave me money to buy their products (saving them the £6.95 UK shipping fees).

Have I earned enough to break even? No, probably not. I suspect I’m running at a slight loss, BUT I have had great makeup that I’ve used all year. So not really a “loss”.

I’d have bought makeup anyway and this way all the makeup I buy I receive 25% back on. Not only that I’m paid three hours after ever sale! Plus when I shop through my own party links, I get to earn 1/2 price credit, and even free makeup in the form of y-cash to spend.

So in my mind it’s not been a financial loss at all…if that makes sense?

“Are you Making Money with Younique?”

If anyone is expecting to join Younique and for it to be “easy money”- then  they’ve got another thing coming. It’s not easy. As I say all the time “it’s not for everyone”.

In fact, the Younique presenter agreement sums it up pretty well: “financial success with Younique requires commitment, effort, and sales skill.”

I second that emotion, and I am learning more each day, which is  a good thing, I think.

The thing is I get people saying “yeah but” to me a lot. “Yeah but are you making any money at Younique yet?”

How many businesses do you know make money in the first year?

Or even the second or third? Why should a direct sales business be any different? It takes time. Lots of it. It’s not throw a few links up and rack in the dough. Those efforts will show no return whatsoever.

For me though, I’m prepared to give it time. I am putting in a lot of hard work now – so that in a few years, it IS making me money. It’s starting to now…

Most of my sales (and my recruits) now come from strangers – via this very blog. Thank you for that.

The challenge with tallying what I’ve earned with Younique is that I’ve given some makeup away as gifts, I have been paid cash in US dollars and UK pounds, I get paid by PayPal (in both currencies) and BACS bank transfers too. I also sell through my youniqueproducts/thea site – so I’ve lot of monetary places to be keeping track of…I’m still going through it all, and I do look forward to seeing the overall total (and so does my accountant Erik!)

You’re Nothing Without a Team

To make any money and promote within the company, you’re going to need to be prepared to build a team of people who are prepared to do the same. When I joined I heard “recruit 5 and train them to recruit 5, who recruit 5” – often. Sounds easy enough, doesn’t it?

Pah, it’s not.

Or at least it hasn’t been for me!

I mentioned a few of my own recruits, of which there have been 21 to date (I was hoping for 3 more by today so it will have been an average of two per month, but 21 it is…)

  • Some people have joined my team and never even spoken to me, and then dropped off. (Presumably just “kit snatchers”).
  • Some have joined my team, spoken to me and said they wanted to build a successful business, and then did nothing at all, then dropped off.
  • Some have dropped off due to life getting the way, and then reactivated and kept going! Hooray!
  • Some are actually working their business and recruiting team mates of their own. Double hooray!

To me, the hardest part of the business – not the selling of the makeup (it sells itself), but the recruiting like minded (ambitious) teamies or as I call them “rock stars”.

It’s been particularly hard to watch people join only to do nothing (or very little) then quit. It’s really hard to not take that personally – even though it has little or nothing to do with me.

No one’s direct sales success or failure can be solely down to their upline or sponsor. My own sponsor ended up quitting halfway through the year.

There is no excuse to not be a success in your own right – given the amount of support there is for Younique. There are webinars, Facebook groups/pages, YouTube channels, blogs, etc.

After the first week, I seldom went to my upline for anything, as a quick search of Google usually revealed the solution, or sometimes a chat with Younique support. It was great I could lean on her but I tried hard to not have to!

Back to my recruits, though…Yes, many of them have quit, but many have remained and started to build a team of their own, as I said. To date, there has been a company high of 34 people. How cool is that? Active at this moment? 20. Three of those are marked for deletion again. D’oh!

Younique is not for everyone.

Younique Glasgow Collage - #youbytheaAnother challenge with a team is not taking things personally when some people don’t really respond to, or resonate with, you, so they find other presenters who resonate with them more.

But if I look at my own style of learning I did the same thing. There are some Younique Black Status presenters I think are amazing (like the ones pictured here) and then there are others who aren’t my cup of tea.

Rapport is a strange beast and not everyone gels.

Not everyone relates to my style of Younique coaching, so I’m having to learn to not take that sort of thing personally! I try to continually remind them I am there if they need me to lean on but many have found other presenters to go to and that’s good! Whatever works!

Younique Incentives

One thing I have loved about Younique are the incentives. Getting different charms for each level, and for fast start and the recent +YOU movement. It gives you something to work toward. I’m a sucker for those charms. I want them all and I’ll get there eventually. This email came in mid-week and it made my day. It was fabulous to recruit three presenters in one week! That was three weeks ago…

+YOU MOVEMENT - Younique by Thea

NOTE: The day after posting this I finally got another recruit Emma!
Meanwhile I anxiously await for my new +YOU charm to add to my collection!

My Younique Wrap

So that’s My Year in Younique summary for this first, rather challenging year. My goal, if you’re interested, is still to promote up to Blue or Green (if not higher) for next year’s update.

It’s taken quite a while to get here, but I truly feel that I have the start a totally awesome team now! We just all need to synchronise our awesomeness. It’s often been the case that I had a great month in personal sales and my team didn’t. Or they did great and my sales were patchy.

To be successful in this business (or any business really), I believe it takes a positive attitude, tons of tenacity and self-belief. It’s also about hard work and dedication, not just on your business but on yourself. Perseverance is paramount.

There will be days when you want to pack it in, but if you can step away for a day or two, you’ll often come back feeling renewed. Set goals, and make step towards them daily in some way. It’s about riding out the highs and lows. You get a cluster of sales, you’re on a high, then you have nothing for two weeks, you’re on a low…repeat, lather, rinse.

Well that’s been my experience and it should be noted that we’re all different so Younique experience may vary! I’ve met a lot of people that have loved the company and the products and many who haven’t. As I keep saying, “Younique is not for everyone” – but it is for me!

This year, I think I’ve learned that a successful year is not solely based on monetary terms, because every single day I’m learning more about selling, people, communication, mentoring and business management. And you know what? Some of those aforementioned strangers have now now become truly amazing and inspiring friends!

My Week in Younique – May Days

Thea Newcomb | Yellow Younique Presenter in the 1st month.Well another week or so has passed, it’s been decidedly mixed. Was fairly quiet for the whole first week then BAM! A rush – like buses – all coming at once.

Well Done Kel!

Great news, Kelly, one of my newest rock star recruits in England, has gone Yellow. She’s only the second person in my team who has managed to do so! I am sooo very proud of her! Onwards she goes!

She seems to want to “work it” more than anyone else presently on my entire team. On maternity leave, she really aims to build a business which will allow her to spend more time at home raising the children. Like me, though, she’s aiming for the top with Younique.

Also last week, as I mentioned in the last My Week in Younique (6 mos update), I attended a Younique event in Glasgow with nearly 150 of my fellow y-sisters. Because I have an American accent, I occasionally got mistaken for being one of the Black Younique presenters, which of course I’m not (yet). Perhaps one day…

If I am being honest, it was disappointing to me that I had no team mates there. I was surrounded by other people who had their teamies around ’em, but a lot was said about teams in general that did make me feel a bit better.

I have often felt that with my Younique business that you can lead the team to the watering hole, but you can’t make them drink anything. By that, I mean I can’t force, prod or push people to promote their business or to want to learn as much as they can. That’s gotta be down to them.

I was glad I went to the event. It was infectious being in the room with people at all Younique levels – from the newbies to the top dogs – as it were…It was an impressive amount of talent and inspirational stories bouncing around the room. It made me want to work harder to go higher and farther than I have.

Younique Glasgow Collage - #youbythea
It was encouraging to hear the challenges that these Black Level ladies had with their businesses and teams. Stories of working 40,50.60 hours and then brining in something like $84. I have been there. Many people have, I suspect, and just gave up thinking “there’s no money in this” or “this is too hard” or some other excuse. But it’s a slow build in my opinion. Sure there are Younique exceptions. I heard some in that room last week, of people going far super fast, but it’s not my reality. Slow and steady wins the race for me. I am the tortoise not the hare.

A few really helpful conversations were had between myself and Shawna Flinkert (left selfie) Michelle Bell (right selfie). They, in many ways, were the highlight of the night for me.Shawna gave me a good tip. She said it something she heard from one of her team mates, I believe…”3,4,5″ – since people are so “busy” these days – ask them for a wee coffee and ask them to bring three friends. Show four products in five minutes. “Everyone has time for coffee” she says. What a great idea. I plan to try it.

Gotta get my 5 minute pitch down pat first though? Ha ha.

Michelle talked about the rule of thirds (or something like that). With MLMs, you need to build big teams and for every ten, only three will really work it.Of the three, probably just one will be a “rock star” (as I call them). I look at my team and I could see how this reflects the average in direct sales. It really does! The money really comes in with a team, continually recruiting, and training them to recruit too. I’m still learning and loving it.

Welcome Rebecca

Welcome Rebecca - so glad you have decided to #jointheAteamWelcome to my latest team member Rebecca. Another English woman who has small children (or rather one) who she wants to have more time at home with. At the event, much time was spent talking about our “Why” – why we do the business we do.

For Rebecca it’s to be able to take her son to school and pick him up. She’s already done other Direct Sales businesses and she already knows the business model and that it takes a lot of work. I hope she’s as fantastic as I’d predict she is. She’s already a master-networker and is talking creatively about how she hopes to promote her own business locally in her area of Glasgow’s southside.

Before yesterday we had only known each other “online” through a mutual friend so it was fun to meet up in person and talk at length about Younique products, our goals within the company and our “Whys”. Though I don’t have any kids I do have a father I’d like to be supporting – so my “why” centers more around him!

3D Fiber Lashes

Thea's Fave Products, 3D Fiber Lash Mascaras from YouniqueSo I’ve just sold my last set of 3D Fiber Lashes and need to bulk order more. A few enquiries came in last night via this blog, also my Younique page, and some the night before via Facebook too.

For UK people who need a set of the fiber lashes, ordering direct through me can save them nearly four pounds. I order them in and will send out in the UK, so for people who want to save a bit of money and who aren’t in a hurry it’s worth reaching out to me here. I take payments usually through PayPal.

Most of my Younique mascara sales are to women in England. Thanks ladies!! So if you’re anywhere in the UK – order direct with me and save some money! Ring me on the number here on the website if you like. Preferably no later than 9pm.

My Week in Younique – 6 Months Update

MY YOUNIQUE EXPERIENCE (SO FAR)

The Highlight of my Week - Receiving these Younique CharmsWell, I’ve been a Younique Presenter and Sponsor for over six month now. It’s been quite a ride – that’s for sure!

Honestly? It’s been filled with some pretty high highs and, truth be told, some disappointing lows.

But, do you know what? Over all, I still love it. I am still 100% committed to continuing and moving up the ladder.

This (long) blog will highlight a bit more, why and some discoveries I’ve been making along the way.

“THERE IS NO I IN TEAM”

The trick, in my opinion, with Younique is attracting the right kind of team mates. To date I’ve had about fourteen team members (I think) in total. Now there are maybe eight, including me, and three of those are marked to become “inactive” at the end of the month which is hard to witness.

Out of those three, ONE, I believe, will pull it out of the bag and continue. The others will remain to be seen. (I suspect they’ll drop off.)

That has been the biggest hurdle, for me, in running my Younique business. I don’t find sales hard. I get them regularly. Sure I could use more, but I manage to “qualify” every month, it’s not hard. (Most of my sales are strangers not family and friends.)

I don’t find recruiting hard. I have gotten new team mates every month just about. What I have found challenging is sourcing recruits who are 100% committed to making it to the top! NO MATTER WHAT!!

I thought I had some of those before, they were so excited to join. They started out so strong and so positive, but they didn’t turn out to be. They got side-tracked or just gave up. They dropped off.

So right now it appears to be just ONE out of EVERYONE I have had the pleasuring of sponsoring who seems to want it, really want it.

One A-teamer who has the time, the focus, the commitment and tenacity to truly make it happen.

One who appears to want to learn, as much as humanly possible, about the business, about the products, and to experiment with looks and social media channels.

That’s the kind of person I need on my team in order to promote up the ladder and a few more just like her, but as the saying goes…

“IT’S A NUMBERS GAME”

One video I watched last week was by US Black Status Presenter Michelle Bell (who I get to meet tomorrow here in Scotland; more on that in a minute). She talked about the numbers and odds of success in this business. The rule of thirds as it were.

If you recruit ten, maybe three will do something with it. I believe I have three who will – just like she says.

Two of the three though have jobs and kids (one grandkids) etc getting in the way, and so their focus is not on building a Younique business.

That’s ok. They still can have a pretty solid and fun business – simply achieving yellow and not promoting further up the ladder. Am still happy to have them on my team. I truly am.

But in many ways, the ideal team mate is one who is ambitious, who pushes through any negativity that may arise, or down days that come (and both do happen regularly) to keep laying foundations for a successful business in the long term. Ones who will continue to work even when seeing no results coming in. That’s the real challenge! Putting in so much time and effort and not getting cheesed off when you’re not getting immediate results.

Watching my own team from the side lines, there has been no consistency for most of them and that’s been frustrating. I can’t make them post daily, or every other day, I can’t make them love their business. I can only lead the horse to water – beyond that, it’s up to them.

I found found that consistency is the key. Posting about the business regularly. Not always sharing links but in sharing the love of the business! In fact, truth be told, I seldom post any links. My “selling” is really just through my enthusiasm! That’s infectious!

That’s where I find my Younique sales “easy” while the others find it more difficult.

One reason it’s hard for them is because they’re telling themselves it’s “hard” or that “there is so much competition now”. I’ve heard many of them say this to me.

Secondly, they’re not being consistent with talking about the business excitedly and positively DAILY.

Back to the whole “hard” thing. To me, Ford had it right. So much of our success boils down to our thinking.

YOUNIQUE: "If you think you can or think you can't you're right."

There are probably hundreds of Younique presenters in Glasgow (or Central Scotland) but I never give any of them a single thought. Why would I? I have to keep my eye on my own business.

Sure, occasionally, I check out the competition on social media to see how they’re marketing their own Younique business, but really their business is just that…Their business.

Also, I know that I will appeal to some people, and not to others. The same goes for my Y-Sisters.

There are some uplines I look at who just don’t “speak to me” the way others do. I get people saying “my friend is doing Younique too” and then they go and buy from me!

I’ve probably had friends go buy from someone else. That’s the nature of the beast.

To be a success in Younique (which I am certainly striving to be), I believe you need to be positive, enthusiastic and consistent in your posting and in your attitude.

I manage to post about Younique every single day – on my various channels. Some days I do so on every channel – other days on one or two (e.g. Twitter @newthea and Google+).

But every day I am putting something positive out there about this fabulous Younique Opportunity. EVERY DAY!!

I try to blog every week – sometimes more than once. It is my hope that with this very blog, I can educate and communicate with those who are thinking about buying Younique products, like our 3D Fiber Lashes or who are considering joining Younique and needing a sponsor.

6 MONTHS DOWN – CURRENT OUTLOOK

So it’s been six months, how do I feel? Well, I already mentioned the team thing’s been a real challenge. As I said, I have no trouble recruiting team mates at all, and never have from the very start, but finding ones who want to stay in the business, who love it as much as I do, and are committed to building a team – that’s been difficult.

If you’re thinking of joining Younique, I am 100% certain you’ll experience a similar thing. The challenges and frustrations but it can teach you a lot about yourself and your own team management too! So that’s perhaps a good thing.

Remember that it’s a numbers game, but it is also important to work out who your “ideal recruit” is, and then how to attract them, by the messages you’re putting out there.

While I am happy to have team mates that just want to buy the makeup for themselves – and not sell or recruit – the real gold is in the business builders with the same dream as me.

HAVE YOU MADE MUCH MONEY?

In short? I’ll be honest with you, no, not at all. Not what you want to hear, but I vowed to be as transparent as possible from the outset of My Week in Younique posts.

To be clear….Some months I’ve done pretty well. One month it paid the mortgage. Woot Woot!

Some months I haven’t done good commission wise  at all. January was paltry!

The real reason I’ve not made much money with Younique is because there is a real temptation of plowing all the earnings back into the business.

That’s why, a few months ago, I blogged If you Love Makeup Don’t Become A Younique Presenter. It’s a slippery slope!

Shop Younique by TheaIn the first few months with Younique, I made a conscious decision to ensure that I had every single Younique product. I feel it’s essential to run a good business I need to have personally tried them all. I need to be able to show the products, talk about them, and blog about them here.

So a lot of my commissions get spent. Now I don’t have every colour, but I have all Younique products.

I also use the products every day. I genuinely love the products which also probably helps me sell it. That passion comes through in everyone I speak with. Just ask them! Once I start going, I don’t shut up!! But that’s also why I don’t have a tone of “profit”.

HOW’S LIFE BETTER WITH YOUNIQUE?

Wee iPhone selfie of Thea Newcomb & Younique sponsor Joanna Hunter
3 mos in, I met my upline Joanna (L)!

Another benefit to joining Younique is that I have made some new friends through the business.

Both on my upline (r) team mates and downline too.

People I can talk to about the business, ask questions, get advice or give advice too.

I am a Social Media Trainer who trains businesses every day – so I enjoy a business that allows me to be a mentor for my team mates if they need one! (Some have asked for help and training and others don’t take me up on the offer).

I had a 4-hour video call with one of my newest recruits, Kelly, on Friday. FOUR HOURS! Can you believe that? Talking about the products, about social media best practices, and about the business challenges and the joys too.

That was a real pleasure. I think we could have kept right on talking had it not gotten to be 1am! So this business really is FUN but…

YOUNIQUE IS NOT FOR EVERYONE

I have seen, first hand, that Younique is not for everyone. Some I sponsored tried it, and got cheesed off, for one reason or another. Some had health issues come up. Some had family or job things get in the way.

But you know what? The people that had these sorts of obstacles put them off really just didn’t love the business enough to want to make it work. When you do really want something so bad, you’re 100% committed to it – in spite of the challenges.

US BLACK STATUS TRAINING

Michelle Bell & Other Younique Black Presenters come to Glasgow for TrainingDozens of Younique Black Status presenters do videos and training. They have groups or websites to help train their downlines to promote.

I watch them all the time. Well, tomorrow, four, US, Younique Black Status Presenters are coming to Glasgow to have a dinner and share pearls of wisdom. I have volunteered to help out by signing people in.

It should be a fabulous event, and a chance to meet these Rock Stars in the flesh. So yes, that’s a real exciting Younique Opportunity for me.

Though it’s been long, I do hope this update has given you something to think about – particularly if you’re interested in Younique as a possible “Plan Be” for yourself or even to run it as a full time business.

Though it’s not an easy business, there is no “get rich quick” opportunity here, I have absolutely loved being a presenter and sponsor to a team in the US and the UK.

Looking to sponsor Younique Presenters in GermanyI can’t wait to have people join the team from Canada, Australia, New Zealand and soon Mexico, Germany too! Oh yeah, speaking of which, I think I have my first recruit there already. She’s Iranian, the room mate of a friend, and lives in Hamburg, Germany. She seems very excited. We’ll see what happens there…I’ll certainly keep you posted!

Tomorrow, Cinco Di Mayo we launch our products in Mexico! I’ll try to write more about that and the training tomorrow night.

10 Reasons to Join Younique

Is it Time to Join Younique?

If you’re here it’s likely because you’ve been searching for information about joining Younique. Maybe you’re looking to find a sponsor, to work out if “Younique is a scam” or “a horrible pyramid scheme” or too good to be true? Or perhaps you stumbled across this when looking for how to get your hand on some 3D Fiber Lashes?

Well I have lots serious articles about what it’s like to be a Younique presenter, answering lots of questions in my Younique FAQs – but today I simply thought I’d share with you my 10 reasons why you should join Younique or at least to consider joining…

1) FUN

Younique is FUN
Let’s face it, of all the things you can be doing, or selling in this world, makeup is a totally FUN offering! So if you like makeup, and are looking for a sociable business that is FUN, then this is the one. You get to try, buy, and apply makeup to your heart’s content. You can party online or off. It’s totally up to you! The most important thing is to have FUN with it! I do…

 2) FAB

Younique is FAB

Younique sells fabulous, naturally-based makeup and skincare products. If you are all about your natural, mineral-based, paraben-free, makeup that doesn’t contain harmful chemicals and is hypo-allergenic, then you’ll feel great selling these products every day. Many of the products are even 100% natural, some are even vegan, and all of which are cruelty-free.

If you care what you wear, then wear this!

3) FLEXIBLE

Younique is Flexi
Want a Flexi-time business? Work as little or as much as you want and wherever you want. If you want to run it full time, you can, or if you just want to give it an hour or two of week, that’s ok too. Work at home, in an office, a coffee shop or when waiting to pick up your kids at school. Work on a computer, a tablet or your smart phone. Work at the beach or by the pool if you want (I’ve done it, and I love that!) Younique is a totally flexible business. Do your thing – your way, it’s all ok!

4) FAST

Younique is FAST
Are you ready to go? When you are ready to join Younique, it takes just minutes to sign up. As a Younique presenter, you can start selling within minutes. You, your family, your friends, associates, even strangers, can start shopping immediately through your own Younique web site.

Perhaps even more excitingly, you get paid your commissions (20-30%) just three hours after every sale! Now that is FAST!

5) FREE

Free goodies with Younique

With Younique, you get your own FREE website that has no annual fees. It’s also the place you sell immediately, but also you can earn FREE makeup for yourself through your own party links! How cool is that?

Other ways to get FREE goodies? You can earn a lot of it by hitting “Fast Start”. If that weren’t enough, you’ll also earn FREE Y-cash on you Birthday each year too ($25.00 USD | $30.00 CAD | $33.00 AUD | $35.00 NZD | £20.00 GPB).

So that’s cause of celebration alright! Who doesn’t love FREE stuff?

6) FREEDOM

Freedom to run a Younique Biz your way
Like I said in number 3, in your Younique business, you have the freedom to run it how and where you want.

You have freedom to choose what works best for you to be your most authentic self. If you want to host in home parties, you can. If you want to do it “old-school catalog” way, you can do it that way too. If you want to become a Youtube vlogger or normal blogger, then go for it. If you want to attend events, you can. If Instagram is your channel of choice, you can choose to only market there. Or perhaps you’re a queen pinner then take your business and pin-it to Pinterest. You may be a party girl and host tea parties or lashes and lattes lunch breaks. Younique offers you much freedom to run things your way, each day!

PS: You do not have to have a Facebook business page or host parties on FB, I’ve never done either and I do pretty good with Younique. Do what suits YOU…not your upline.

7) FASHION

Younique is in Fashion
From the latest trends like 3D Fiber Lashes, or mineral pigment powders and creamy eye shadows to luxurious lip stains – you’ll always be on trend and in fashion with Younique makeup. They’re constantly adding new products to our lines. See how your Younique sisters are shining their Younique light with various looks created by presenters. Yep, this is most-definitely not your grandma’s makeup company!

8) FACEBOOK

Younique FacebookTo be honest, I’m not sure whether it’s a good thing or a bad thing, but you need to have a Facebook account to be a Younique presenter. For many of you who are already posting on Facebook, this is great news!!

You can actually use it to promote your business and make yourself some money while “playing” on there all day anyway. Get paid to play as they say! Promote items via your Facebook business page, or through an event. Or share your Younique life through your profile (Note: FB does have Ts&Cs to prevent you using your profile as a business though – so be careful, be creative!)

For those of you who may not like FB, you don’t actually have to use it for marketing. You can simply use it to log into your account and do your promoting how, when and where you like (I refer you to numbers 3 and 6 above!)

9) FAMILY

Younique Family
If you have a family yourself, then this business will afford you the ability to spend more time with them. You can help support them by earning extra money each month.

For those of us who don’t have a family (well mine is thousands of miles away), you can become a part of a Younique Family. Your team will become a sort of “family” to you, should you wish to connect to your Y-sisters. I have found it to be a supportive sisterhood and hopefully you will too!

10) FRIENDS

Younique Friends
Similarly to number 9, my tenth reason to join Younique is all about friends. If you have lots already, you can spend more time having fun with them. You can get together with them and have play with your presenters kit filled with products.

Some of them will love it and join your team (my first half-dozen recruits were my friends and my best seller has been a long-time friend). Some friends will be your most supportive customers. Theses are good friends.

You also will likely find you make new friends. I am making friends with many of my upline and downlines alike. Young and old alike – we friends are celebrating a similar mission as business owners, and are encouraging each other along our journeys. Also we help each other on days when we feel like chucking it in, and I’ll be honest with you, those days do happen. They don’t happen for me but when they do it’s good to have a supportive network to see you through!

My Week in Younique – New Teamies, Parties and More!

My Week in Younique new teamies, parties, and more

My Week in Younique – New Teamies, Parties and More!

Well another week in Younique has passed – selling more products, hosting more Younique parties and welcoming a few new new teamies, too…

January was pretty dire, I have to be honest with you, not just for me, but for my entire company too. The best sales came from one team member buying mostly for herself. As I’d spent so much in November and December, I was on a self-imposed buying ban!

Everyone is a potential customer…

Check out Molly's 3D FIber Lash Mascara eyes! This week has proven that sales can come from a variety of sources. One mascara, that sold at the start of the week, was through a private message from a Facebook friend/ former So You’ve Been Dumped site member (FYI she’s happily married now with a few kids, don’t worry! Ha!)

She paid me by BACS Monday, and had her lashes Tuesday – much to her amazement. I now await her “Selfie” (…like this one here).

Another came through my Younique site a day later. A stranger. Love those sales, in many ways, the most. In fact, I’d be quite happy if all sales were from strangers, because then I would not need to be nudging family and friends, as I occasionally do. (I have dialled it back a bit, and changed my tactic to be fair…)

At a Glasgow networking event on Friday, I sold a set of lashes to a 21-year old, Lithuanian fella for his sweetheart. It was for her Valentine’s Day – but as Friday was her birthday, he caved and gave it to her sooner! Who can blame him?

In any event. that sale just proves that sales really can come from anywhere…so I carry sets of 3D lashes with me wherever I go now!

I worked hard this week…set myself some goals, created some images, and thought about where I’d like to go with this Younique Opportunity. I’m definitely aiming for the top, and am 100% committed (Well, most days!).

Do I have days of doubt? For sure. Did lack of January sales and almost-no team enthusiasm bum me out? For sure. But it’s funny, when I really start to feel the doubt, something happens to remind me I am on the right path…so I persevere! Last night was a great example of that…

Younique parties – ways to hostess…

People really do have a tough time really grasping what Younique’s online parties are, so I am going to give some thoughts on the matter. It’s perhaps confusing because it really can be anything you want it to me…

A Younique presenter can book a party with anyone she is friends with on Facebook (or host the party herself). Personally, I always have a 10-day party, or two, running for myself!

Once the link is created it’s time to use it…either personally, or by sharing it with others! Here are a few ways that might be done…

1) Facebook: A most popular-way is to head over to FB to create an event.  Once created, it’s time to share — images, stories, tutorials, links etc. Frankly, I don’t think the parties are the best option, but I know other Youniques have done them where they’ve been hugely successful. To me, they’re too much work, and hostesses don’t tend to be that fussed about putting in the work to make it successful (From what I’ve seen). Again they can work…That’s just not the route I take.

2) Facebook Group: You can create a group and share stuff to that in the same way as above. Again I don’t think this is the way forward as most people will not post the recommended five (or whatever) times a day. Some Youniques totally nail this, and have content all ready to go etc…and I am sure it works for them. But again not me. (I have a mental block I think).

3) Facebook List: What I do think can work is to create a FB list of people you think would be interested in the Makeup posts…or at least not put off by them. Share your link, pictures, tutorials, etc to that list. Consider tagging friends if you want (am not a fan of tagging or being tagged so I do it very rarely). I do share to my Younique list regularly.

4) Other Social Media: You can also share the link on any of your social media channels. If you use Twitter, share the party link there, if you’re more of an instagram person, use it. Vlogger – create videos and share them on Vimeo or Youtube (Vine or Instagrame or even FB again).

5) Google+: I think G+ deserves a special mention here. I’ve seen a quite a few Youniques trying to create parties on Google Plus in a Facebook sort of way, and I can tell you now, it’s ill-advised. They are very different places. I’ve been a HUGE fan and trainer of Google+ and trying to use it like FB is not likely to get you any credibility or sales. So please stop inviting me to your Younique party there – especially if we’ve never spoken or engaged at all on G+!! Instead simply share your images and stories. Engage with other people there.

While I do have a Glatitude Google+ Page which I barely use, I actually spend almost all my time using my personal profile. On my profile I mix everything that I love – photography, Younique, music, social media…it’s not a place I simply broadcast my 3D fiber lashes links and pics. It’s very much created to build my overall, personal brand.Love it Bundle - Double Party Points - Click to visit and find out more!

6) Simply Try a Private party…

So an old friend from High School messaged me on Friday night saying “I need to order three more of the mascaras” because she loved them – as did her cousin! So I excitedly suggested a party link.

Then, in my zeal, I overwhelmed her too much information, and she just replied back with “can I just buy the mascara without the party?”.  Oops!

Right now people are getting double party points so it makes sense to, even if you don’t want to share the link anywhere, buy through your own party link. In the end, she did that last night and earned herself some half priced items and Y-cash which she can spend over the next year!

There are many more ways than what is listed above to do the “party” thing. You can share the party link with your work colleagues, friends, family via email. I created a PDF last night for our February Love It Bundle and emailed it to a few friends who are willing to pass it on to their makeup-loving friends.

The world is your oyster with how you promote your own Younique party link. Heck you can even do what my high school friend did and just buy stuff for yourself, using it and grab yourself some perks for next time you want some free or cheap make up. Win/win!

#theAteam expands

Another Cali gal makes 3 for #theAteam!I mentioned some Younique new teamies….here we go.

While I was still on the “high” of a nice-sized order last night, another email came in saying a new team member had joined my team. This being Teri, a friend for nearly thirty years, who joins me and the other Californian Tina (known for more than 30 years). So it’s like the Trifecta with the three Ts!

Twenty minutes later another recruit joined – Sammie in Scotland. Sammie currently now juggles three businesses that will compliment each other. So delighted to have her too.

So it was quite night last night, I have to say. Welcome a fe more like that too!

I said #theAteam’s expanding, but as some new ones are joining, others are simply doing nothing with their Younique business. That to me is one of the hardest parts to deal with as a leader. People being too busy, apathetic, or disenfranchised or whatever – so they are doing nothing with this opportunity. They’ll soon be falling by the wayside I fear…

I suppose it’s the nature of the beast, and it happens in every Direct Sales business around the world, I am sure. I did hear that 20% of your team will make 80% of the money. This appears to be the case for my team.

Realistically, I just need to find a few more like me! Committed, hard working, enthusiastic and pretty good with the whole ‘online thing’…

Better get back to writing my team training document…Until next week….

Best Recruitment Video Ever

Before I go I will leave you with what is arguably the best Younique Recruitment video ever…

If you love the sound of that, then why not join #theAtea now – I’d always welcome new teamies! Be pleased to have you!

My Week in Younique x 2

Don’t believe I ever managed to post last week’s ‘Week in Younique’ update – so here I go again.

Well, it was the holidays this week, so you’ll have to forgive me…To be honest, there has not been a ton of things to report anyway, but will update just the same.

It was quite a shuffle about to make sure my entire team had enough of the 3D Fiber Lash Mascaras to go around for the holidays. Thankfully, I had deliberately ordered extra to cover any shortages. So the last week before Christmas was a lot of juggling about – meeting up and handing off the mascaras to the girls! My dear friend Karen sold over twenty! That was more than most of the team combined. I am simply in awe of her achievement!

Recruitment Has Been Slow

Want to make extra money playing with makeup? Click the pic to learn how! There have been no new additions to the team – or even my company – since my last updateJust nine – including me!

Hopefully that will change in the New Year – as people look to make some changes to their lives.

Younique is perfect for anyone who likes makeup, selfies and socializing (online or off!!)

How can you beat getting paid a minimum of 20% of every sale – all for posting on social media channels of your choice?

Not only that but get paid daily!

And as you work your way up the status levels, you get paid 25% then 30%. (As I passed yellow am sitting at 25% but aiming for that 30%!)

Those are a few of the reasons I personally joined Younique, of course, but another of the many things I love most about Younique is its flexibility.

What do I mean by that? Well, the fact you can do Younique simply for some pocket money, or you can work it like a real business that you want to retire in a year or two on. Last month we had our first two millionaires. Not back for a company just over 2 years old!

How you do your Younique business is up to you. No two of my team members does it the same way and that’s a beautiful thing!

Ideally, I’d like to personally take it all the way to the top (Black Status!!) and to find other people who want to do the same!

So am currently searching for some positive, self-motivated, ambitious people who want to work smart and like to think “out of the box”. If that’s you – please join #theAteam today! 🙂

Naturally I welcome the kit-snatchers (those who just want to buy the kit for the makeup), the hobbyists (who want to sell only to their family and friends) too – but really what would be the greatest scenario – would be find some gung-ho workers who are as keen as me!

For such a small, one-off outlay to have your own company with your own website that’s live the moment you join, what do you have to lose? Try it for a few months, and if you don’t like it, you got some make up out of it! Well that’s how I went into it anyway…

Now though, I am hooked!

Saving My Best News for Last…

Pink Level Status - Younique By TheaJust logged onto my Younique website this afternoon, only to discover that, while I was out, I reached Pink Level Status. That means all four of my goals have been achieved in my two months of being a Younique Presenter.

The first was White, then Yellow then Fast Start and now Pink!

The exciting thing about Pink is that you start to make money off of your team. I’ll take all I can get, thankyouverymuch! 🙂

See ya next year! I can’t believe it’s 2015 almost! What do you plan to achieve in 2015? Where will it take you? Time to write it all down…Those goals of yours!

If you need inspiration about Goals. then check out this…It’s only 5 hours…LOL! Been driving around this past month listening to this on cassette (you may be too young to know what that even is!)!

You’re welcome. x

My Week in Younique – Hello Fast Start!

My Week in Younique – Hello Fast Start!

I made money while I slept again last night – what did you do? Waking up to emails that say how much I earned over night make me very happy! Also, I woke up to a notification saying I’d reached ‘Fast Start’ too (my third goal for joining Younique – but more on that in a minute!!) What a great start to this week’s update – which will, admittedly, be decidedly mixed…

Younique Milestones to Date

Made it to Fast Start - Younique By Thea

My first goal was to reach White Level status – which is an easy achievement at just 125 points (effectively dollars). That’s basically a few mascaras (4 or 5) and then that’s you!

To stay as an active Younique presenter, you need to do that every 3 months. No problemo there!

The second was much tougher – Yellow Level Status – which is 1000 personal points (effectively dollars). The great thing about Yellow is you get a pay rise from 20% to 25% forever and you get a yellow charm for the bracelet!3dmascaralips

Fast Start was my third goal because it gets you another wee charm for the bracelet and more excitingly $250 worth of FREE products. I’ve had my eye on the biggest collection so now’s a good time to grab that one!

One of my newest recruits on #theateam Karen has taken orders for twenty of the Moodstruck 3D Mascaras! An incredible feat. So very proud of her.

Not only Karen has done well this week, Julie has both done well on mascara orders but also sponsored her first team mate Ann-Marie. Both those ladies are doing amazingly well so far!

Now The ‘Less Than Stellar News’

Well, I aim to be telling as true of a story as possible  on my blog – without dissing the company. Myself and my team have had some challenges with orders so far.

Younique 3D mascaras stuck in England
My 3D Mascaras are hanging out in Middlesex it seems!

Like the mascaras that have been sitting in England for days. They travelled to California from Utah then made it as far as England and then got stuck! Worryingly it’s been 20 days since they were ordered.  Also none of my company members (we’re up to 8 in total) have received their starter kits which makes things challenging for them to promote their businesses.

All of my previous orders were received in plenty of time (less than 2 weeks), but my guess is that the UK has done so incredibly-well (better than expected) that they simply were slammed both in Utah at corporate and in England where they need to go through Customs. Couple that with the fact Christmas is just around the corner, and it feels like there may be a bottleneck.

But this is purely all speculation on my part. I’ve had no confirmation from Younique about this. And really if they got this far – and are stuck in England it doesn’t seem like it’s Younique at fault…Just sayin’.

There have been no recruits (not that I’ve tried really super hard, but there have been sales from strangers which makes me very pleased. Today’s Fast Start was achieved by one such person who simply logged on to buy three 3D Fiber Lash Mascaras from me. I’ll take it any way I can get it!!

This Younique Week Summary

Well that’s about it. I have moments of doubt (usually when I see something negative written about Younique) which makes me question the journey I am on. Then I go to sleep and I wake up and money has arrived so my faith is restored once more!

Hopefully my mascaras will arrive this week and I can start getting ones to those who’ve ordered through me, and sell the rest to those who may need them fast – aka before Christmas. I hope too my team can fulfill all their orders – there must be 50 between us ordered now…Just hope the bottle neck is freed soon!

Finally I nearly forgot to say that I am about 480 point shy of PINK LEVEL STATUS. A few more orders through my Younique site – or from my team – and I’ll achieve that!! That is my main goal for the rest of this month. Tune in next week to see if I achieve it! Wish me luck! Thanks for reading!
