3D Fiber Lash Mascaras – Real vs Fake

Younique 3D Lashes

Moodstruck 3D Fiber Lash Mascaras - in Glasgow - Younique by TheaBy now you probably have heard of Younique’s 3D Fiber Lash Mascara…You’ve probably seen them somewhere on your timeline, or over on Instagram, from a friend, or you just Googled them and found this.

Younique currently sells over 20,000 of them daily….An increase from the 15k that was sold before we, here in the UK, hopped on the Fiber Lash bandwagon.

Frankly, since joining Younique, there has been a lot of hoopla amongst my Y-sisters about the fact that there are supposedly “real” Younique Fiber Lash Mascaras for sale on eBay, Amazon, and the like.

Really, if this is true, then it’s a very disappointing affair, on so many levels..It goes against the whole concept of Direct Sales.

Plus, it would be breaching Younique’s Terms & Conditions – so I highly doubt any of my legit Y-sisters are actually doing it.

That said, there may be some are for sale as “unwanted gifts” or something like that…I am not 100% sure.

Avoid Fake Fiber Lash Mascara

Arguably what’s even worse is that the majority of these 3D mascaras being sold are actually impostors (see FAKE 3D Fiber Lash Mascaras on eBay and Amazon).

Recently, I heard some people (one was even a friend!) trying to bypass Younique Presenters, opting for the allure of the cheaper option of eBay in order to save herself some money.

They cost is £23 UK (US $29) – so if they’re much cheaper then that, I’d caution you to beware.

Really, because it may end up being more costly in the long run. (Lord knows what’s even in them??)

If they are, in fact fakes, it’s unlikely they’ll be as good as the Real McCoy from Younique.

If you’re that desperate to save yourself the shipping costs, speak to your local presenter (you can find one on the map on our site) and ask them if you can try a pair – buying direct from him or her.

Back of Real Younique 3D Fiber Lash mascara - watch out for fakes with barcodes too.To keep you right, I have taken a picture a back of one of MY younique 3D mascaras.

Sorry, I don’t have any fake 3D fiber lashes to show you as a comparison, because naturally, I am not going to waste my money buying them! 🙂

Look for the ingredients in English/French on the back – along with directions, warning and barcode.

Though this is not always an indication, I have heard some fakes do have the barcode and instructions too.

With these counterfeit goods, it can be easy to be “caught out”…

I’ve heard some people say the fake’s packaging actually looks better than the real ones! (Again, I’ve not seen any fakes to comment about).

Please note that just because it looks similar and possibly even works in the same way – doesn’t mean that the quality or the ingredients are going to be the same.

In fact they’re not.

Here’s a super-scary tale of counterfeit makeupI’d urge you all to read before you go searching for cheap, 3D, fiber lashes for sale.

The Internet is rife with people who’ve had a bad experience after buying cheap knock-offs on Amazon or eBay and the like.

There are horror stories of trying to get refunds once they’ve discovered they bought a fake mascara.

If you don’t buy from us, you probably won’t get the same “Love it” 14-day guarantee but you should have some protection on the site where you purchased the lashes.

Beware of Expired Makeup

While we’re on the general subject of makeup, and pitfalls, another thing to watch out for, is the life span of your makeup.

The products you’re using on a daily basis have a shorter life span than you may realise. This goes for not only your mascara, but also the rest of your makeup too.

This Allure article recommends that you “switch mascara every two to three months to be safe”.

I know I have been guilty of keeping makeup/mascara long past its “use by” date. Not any more. I actually looked forward to dumping ALL my old makeup once my Younique Presenters kit arrived! It was a great feeling of “out with the old and in with the new”.

This article about possible side effects to old makeup may make you question your own…(thought I am sure you won’t be silly enough to be using your same tube/s of mascara, Younique or otherwise, for 10 years).

How gross is that?

Thank you for this.. I stupidly ordered off Ebay and it came today – obviously a fake from your advice. I have demanded a full refund and will be reporting the seller to EBAY.
I’ve now bought off a local rep of Younique.
Advice to others: Do not take the chance its not worth it – I paid £19 for a fake when you can pay a little more and the get genuine item..
Thank you for taking the time to write this..

    • December 1, 2014 at 9:23 pm

Aww I am so sorry hon. Can you take pics of the packaging etc? There is some confusion as to whether they are definite fakes – as per today’s updated blog (last bit)!

I’d be curious to see who the seller was – perhaps you can email me a link. I know many are getting reported to our compliance department. Glad you bought off someone local! It really does present an unfair advantage when people go and do that on places like Amazon and Ebay! If it’s a one off – someone maybe got as a gift and didn’t want – then fair enough but if it’s a Younique Rep selling them that way then that’s not so good.

Let me know how you get on with them hon – when the real McCoys arrive! Take care and thanks for your comment!

Hi this product is selling china wholesalers can you let me know if this will be a fake product. Im sure if will be just by the price

    • December 12, 2014 at 8:55 am

No way the real thing would have been available via any wholesalers – Chinese or otherwise…Sorry. Are these on Ebay or Amazon or something? Thanks for the comment!

  • December 14, 2014 at 3:04 pm

Hi on this link it shows the brown box being the original but on the Younique official website it is a black box. im confused!!!

    • December 14, 2014 at 3:59 pm

Yeah it’s a bad picture. The real ones are definitely black! And with a barcode! So buy from official presenters if you can!

So who makes the 3D Mascara for Younique?

    • December 29, 2014 at 12:25 am

Younique. The 3D mascara is made in China for Younique, and it’s dispatched to all of us Younique presenters from Utah.

      • April 20, 2015 at 12:09 pm

So why if is make from younique said made in chinna and dont tell me because is fake because i buy direct from younique web side thanks hope to have aswer back

        • April 20, 2015 at 12:23 pm

If you bought from the Younique website, then what you have is REAL.

Yes, it is “Made in China” with Younique’s own ingredients and dispatched from Utah.

What goes into the 3D Fiber Lashes from Younique is NOT the same naturally-based ingredients as other “knock-offs” that are made there in China…

Again, if you DID buy through the Younique site, then you have the real thing.

  • January 16, 2015 at 9:57 pm

I bought some off this mascara a month or so ago and knew nothing about the real or fake items. How can you tell of there real once the packaging is gone

    • January 17, 2015 at 1:57 am

Honestly I am not sure without the packaging! Probably no way to really tell (knock-offs can be awfully close looking)

I wouldn’t be surprised if the other knock-off brands worked as intended but my only concern is the actual ingredients

  • January 19, 2015 at 7:54 pm

Hiya, please can you tell me how I can order the real thing here in the uk. I’m struggling to find anything other than the ones on eBay or Amazon.

    Many thanks

    • January 20, 2015 at 1:48 am

Hi there…thanks for the comment. Really, to get the official 3D Lashes – you need to buy through youniqueproducts.com/thea (or another presenter’s link)…Or buy direct from one of us. I have some I can send down to you this week – taking a payment for them from Paypal.

  • January 31, 2015 at 2:59 am

Does the real mascara have a small instruction phamplet inside? I knew nothing about the “fakes” and have already thrown away the outer packaging.. mine has a small phamplet thats folded in half…and also my transplanting gel has a very strong paint-like odor…is that normal?

    • January 31, 2015 at 1:12 pm

      Hi Brandy,

      Thank you for the comment.

The instructions are a beautiful glossy instructions sheet – yes. Very nice quality folded over a few times. I’ll add a picture to the blog post after posting this comment.

There is NO smell whatsoever with the gel – no. Zip. Nada. Zilch.

The full 3D Fiber Lash & Gel ingredients are found here.

If you bought them somewhere other than from a Younique presenter, and there’s a smell, then it’s rather likely they’re a knockoff.

Someone commented a while back that she tried hers and “they work just fine” – which may very well be the case – but again the trouble is you don’t know what’s IN them if they’re not the “real Younique” lashes. Some counterfeit mascara has been proven to contain more than three times the legal amount of lead! (Google counterfeit makeup or mascara to see a variety of stories!!). Take care.

    Hi There,

I have just purchased my fibre lash mascara, there is a smell to mine, but it has a us barcode on the back, no im unsure if its real or not?

    Many Thanks

    • February 5, 2015 at 6:37 pm

Hello Holly – I replied personally to you but replying to you here as well. You’re the second person who’s posted about smelly gel this week. Please let me know where exactly you bought your 3Ds from. Can you email me to younique (at) theanewcomb.co.uk so I can investigate? Trying to get info from the other person who queried. There is now a blog on the smelly 3D gel here on the matter!

      Thanks in advance! Thea

      • July 22, 2015 at 9:58 pm

Hello, I just bought the old 3D fiber Mascara this week from eBay it was $10 total, I got it today, I really just wanted the case cause it’s cute! But here are some things I’ve noticed. The label is only in English but does have a “US barcode”, the info sheet inside is glossy but faded, and the transplant get does have a slight paint thinner smell to it.
This product came from Avehub.com from Irvine CA I don’t see an option for photos or I would send them.

        • July 23, 2015 at 4:45 am

I’d bet money on them being fakes… 🙁 Barcodes are no longer the way to tell or not as the fakes have them. The real ones have directions in both English and French. You can email the pics to 3dlashes (at) youniquebythea.com if you like. Won’t be checking emails for a day or so but I’d love to see them. Just be careful with using them – as I keep saying they may look the same and work the same but they are definitely not the same ok? x

hi, I have purchased 2 younique3d fibre lash mascaras, I brought one as a gift and one for myself, they both had us barcodes on, I have opened mine and the transplanting gel smells horrible, is it possible if I can give you one of the barcode so you can check, us-11101-01
also I bought them from a younique rep,

    • April 11, 2015 at 6:54 pm

Oh wow, sorry to hear that Terri…

Regardless of that being the correct number on the barcode, if the transplanting gel has a smell, they they are going to be fake. Our gel has no smell at all.

Where exactly did you buy both from? Because if it was anywhere other than on the Younique Products site – or from her in person (and you can see his/her site) – then it sounds like it was online somewhere and not legal (where we as real presenters are allowed to sell)…?

In some cases, I’ve heard the fake’s logos look even better (whatever that means) than the real 3D lashes so these counterfeiters are very clever indeed…

I have also heard that some fakes have “instructions” taking up the whole back of the sticker. Ours have “TRANSPLANTING GEL & NATURAL FIBERS” (Then the same words in French). The size, the ingredients and then directions followed by bar code.

Hey, i brought mine off ebay (stupidly) ive looked at videos but cant tell if it is real or fake. It came with a us barcode but the seller is in manchester, the plastic packaging looked real. However the symbol looks smaller than the real ones, and there is a slight odour which i can only describe as like a board marker smell. Also on the videos it says the fibres should be matt black but my fibres have a shine to them. The leaflet inside looks real but i cant tell as i know fakes get better at what they do as they realise the mistakes they made. Please help

    Thank you

    • April 17, 2015 at 8:57 pm

If 1) they are from eBay and 2) there is a smell then they ARE fake…

Send them back. Report them. Manchester or otherwise. Can you take picks of everything? Be good to show them here to warn others? I’d also like to see the inside leaflet you have…Would you do that for me hon?

      Sorry about that. 🙁

      See this post too…xoxo

  • April 23, 2015 at 8:16 pm

Hi i bought mine from ebay and I am just reading posts I paid £8.00 for mine and I just received it I have not opened it I don’t know how I can tell if its real or not. How do i attach photos to this site?

    • April 23, 2015 at 8:27 pm

Just emailed you to have you send pics in.

£8.00 3D Fiber Lashes? Alarm bells are ringing when I see that! Be careful. It may look the same and even work the same but the ingredients will very likely NOT be the same…

See the most recent post about 3D Mascara here!

    • May 10, 2015 at 2:55 pm

Undoubtedly. 🙁 Sorry Natalie. My thinking is they may “work” the same but you just don’t know what’s in them. That’s the danger. x

  • May 29, 2015 at 3:17 am

I bought mine off Ebay for $9.99 they have a smell but other than that they work perfect! in my opinion they’re good. 🙁 :/ I wonder if they’re fake.

    • May 29, 2015 at 1:07 pm

I can guarantee they are fake – especially if there is a wee bit of a smell and you only paid $9.99!

The problem is not if they work or don’t work as intended — in so much as, if you buy counterfeit you have no idea what chemicals are in them – as they’re not regulated.

So sure they may work as the “real fiber lashes” do…but I’m very careful of anything I put on my skin, and especially near my eyes!!

What I’d love to do is know what the fakes have in them! too bad I don’t have a lab to see!

This month a big article was a national daily in the UK (the Telegraph)

“Fake cosmetics such as eyeliner, mascara, lip gloss and foundation have been found to contain toxic levels of chemicals and harmful substances such as arsenic, mercury and lead.

      – so please be careful won’t you? Read the full article here.

  • June 4, 2015 at 1:16 pm

hi, would you possibly be able to tell me if this is real or fake, i stupidly brought one from ebay from what was meant to be 100% genuine everything seems to be fine with it, it works well, the barcode is on the back, it has instructions inside and it says it has the same ingredients however the gel does have a smell to it, it almost kind of smells like nail varnish? (i would try to post a picture but I’m not sure how)

    • June 4, 2015 at 1:19 pm

Well it’s hard to tell but if you bought it off Ebay and there’s a smell then I am 99% sure it’s fake – even with the barcode and instructions. They’re very clever these cloners! They may look the same and work the same but that doesn’t mean it’s the same – if you know what I mean! x PS: Check out this post here about smelly 3D transplanting gel and this one asking if you bought Fake 3D lashes!

If it is made in China, you cannot guarantee quality assurance whether “fake” or real. I am so sappointed to learn it is not made in the USA, I will not be purchasing.

    • August 25, 2015 at 9:15 am

They are now Made in America with two patents pending which will hopefully make it easier to stop any counterfeiters.

  • September 9, 2015 at 3:03 pm

Can you replica the new 3d formula? i bought one on ebay not even thinking I am so mad now…. I should of done some research first i mean the person had over 10 of them that they were selling and it looked legit!!! But you never no these days replicas are so good now a days you cant tell but I am not using if its fake!

    • September 10, 2015 at 2:21 pm

Have responded privately already but just to say I am not aware of the new ones being counterfeited already but not sure how someone would have “bulk” 3D lashes to sell at some reduced rate so I am dubious! Look forward to your update when they arrive!

    • October 1, 2015 at 12:09 am

I think I just purchased from this same person on Ebay..The name is almalv3142011. I paid 14.99..Im worried now if they are fake. I also see they are selling in bulk. Did you try yours yet? Do you know if it is legit?

      • October 1, 2015 at 12:28 pm

Most likely yes…At that price. It’s not a case of anyone being able to buy Younique mascara for cheap – even in bulk. So odds are pretty high it’s counterfeit knock off from china. Unfortunately. There are several posts on here that discuss that. Like Did you buy a Fake Fiber Lash Mascara for instance! There are thousands of people selling Younique on eBay and Amazon but none will be genuine presenters as we are not allowed to sell there!! The only way I could see it being legit is if it was an unwanted gift…and there would not be multiples for sale!

  • January 13, 2016 at 11:44 am

I was just about to order from ebay and I just saw that the prices were ridiculously low and then I did a search and I found this. I am so Happy I didn’t order anything from them!!
With this said, can you please help me order the real ones from someone in UK, London? I found on facebook a girl that is dealing with them, but just wanted to make sure she is legit: https://www.facebook.com….

Look foward in hearing form you.

    • January 13, 2016 at 11:51 am

Well why not buy them from me? It doesn’t matter where they’re from? I send them to London and all over the UK every month! 🙂

In 2016, I now charge £26.50 if paid by BACS (still), and now £27.50 by Paypal (as they take a cut).

I mail 3D lashes within 48 hours (max) so you save money and receive faster than ordering through my Younique shop link! 😉

  • January 13, 2016 at 12:00 pm

I don’t mind ordering the mascara from you, but I would also want to purchase a foundation/concealer and I was thinking if it’s possible to meet with the person who deals with them and see which shade is for me. (advise if possible)

    • January 13, 2016 at 1:33 pm

Ah ha, yes, that’s a fair comment/point on the Foundation/Concealer. That said, I am no sure how many presenters will have then in stock to properly colour match…I only have 2 of 10 myself because we have the love it guarantee though I do plan on getting some more in and may actually put together some small testers…

Just now almost all liquid foundations are out of stock in the UK, but only a few of the concealers are…

Younique are all probably just fine as long as he/she has a Facebook page AND a youniqueproducts.com site.

You’ll be ok! Good luck! You’ll love the foundation (I mix 2 shades for my skin tones)…
